“Wonderful and fascinating retreat!”

Chime Long is an exceptionally unique hotel in that a variety of exotic animals are viewable from inside the hotel. We stayed in the newer building and enjoyed the very large and well designed suite. The beds are super comfortable. Balcony has screen doors.
We dined at the hotel's Tiger Restaurant several times since they had a great buffet with an assortment of Asian and Western dishes. Different grill stations would cook your food to your specification and there was always helpful staff to wait for it to be done and bring it to your table. It's one of the best buffets we've experienced!
This is a great vacation destination, lots to do for everyone and a wonderful place to relax!

I was invited to lead a class at a company mega-event for 800 of our Greater China personnel. The venue was the Chimelong Hotel in Guangzhou.

This complex reminded me of Orlando, Florida....giant hotels flanked by fountains, flames, sculptures....wide roads with beautiful landscaping...enormous conference facilities....overdone theme (jungle) represented in the architecture, uniforms, etc

My only complaint about this place is the smoking policy and the air quality. There are no non-smoking rooms, and people are lighting up everywhere. The air quality in Guangzhou is just terrible....smells like a brushfire burning nearby everyday and looks like it, too.

I did not visit any of the adjacent theme parks, though some of the circus performers did entertain us at one of our banquet dinners, and they were quite good.

Chimelong is a great value getaway from Guangzhou or Hong Kong with the family, with world-class zoo, safari, circus and amusement parks next door. As with most Chinese resort hotels Chimelong is geared to 5-star mass tourism - good quality facilities, low cost but with low service capacity. So the rooms are fine (eg bunk-beds in the family room for the kids) but there is a scrum for the mediocre breakfast and the bar food service very slow.

However if you have toddlers then this is still the best place to stay to visit the excellent theme parks next door (the hotel provides generous packages with preference queuing in the Paradise amusement park such as for the 4D theatre). The zoo, safari park and circus are frankly superior to the European equivalents - more animals, better facilities, superb shows such as the white tiger show. Strange how Chimelong barely gets a mention in the western media/internet for its breeding programmes, despite having one of the world's largest collections of white tigers (not to mention the 10 pandas you can almost touch). The Guangzhou crocodile park is also now part of the Chimelong group, but there is no bus service from the hotel and is really impressive only for the sheer number of crocodiles. We already plan to return in the summer to try out the water park.

Chanced upon Chimelong in tripadvisor and decided to give it a try, since we were going to be in guangzhou anyway. And my, what a great experience we had! My family spent a restful week in Chimelong, and my 3-year old had a blast. Although little known to most frequent business travellers to china, Chimelong has long been a very popular weekend getaway destination for hongkong families esp with young children. Chimelong has far more to offer than HK Disneyland, and at far less the price.

To truly enjoy chimelong, it is best to avoid visiting in april and october when the bi-annual trade fairs are held in guangzhou, and as well the busy HK school term breaks (esp weekends) when the place is swarmed and has real problems coping with overcapacity. It is true that hotel reception can be chaotic and breakfast (tiger restaurant) very frustrating at these times.

Our family room at chimelong hotel was spacious and clean. We loved the rain shower (good water pressure). Bkfst spread is good (white tigers keep the kids entertained). The japanese restaurant is elegantly decorated with attentive service, cosy seating, decent sashimi. We had several meals at Butterfly restaurant which serves delicious dim sum and variety of chinese dishes all day long. We received several dining vouchers and a whole week's free entrance passes into all the parks (incl circus), all these came with our hotel room booking (which we didn't know until we arrived... what a pleasant surprise!).

Safari park is huge and plenty of opportunities for the young ones to feed the animals which is great fun. Tram ride in the safari is free and this is not to be missed. The waterpark was closed when we were ther (winter) but looked interesting from the hotel (connected by side entrance... very convenient). Hotel offers free shuttle (15 min interval) to all the parks: animal safari, waterpark, amusement park (really fun thrill rides!.. and plenty of toddler rides including a big indoor playpark.. all clean and well maintained), crocodile park (don't miss the animal shows), circus (in my mind this is better and more exciting than cirque de soleil which i saw in los angeles). Inside the hotel we found a nice children's playroom, arcade games, bowling alleys, table tennis, landscaped gardens with animals (much like a mini zoo), etc.. enough for a day of family fun w/o leaving the building. Mostly pple speak cantonese here (english signage is everywhere but sometimes confusing), food is all asian, smoking indoors is common. But on the whole chimelong has far exceeded our expectations of china as a family vacation destination.. a true hidden gem.

Just stayed there for a night in their Hunter Family Room. Overall hotel's service was above my expectations, in terms of service & cleanliness. Their room was exactly the same which was on the website unlike other 5 star hotels. We reached there around 2pm and within 15 minutes were checked-in though the queue was long. The only negative was the pricing of F&B in their Snow Tiger bar, it was too steep for simple sandwiches. But overall enjoyed it thoroughly. We were expecting delays in room service when we looked at the size of our floor and overall hotel but they took only 5-7 minutes to respond to our call/service. Would like to go again but would like to stay longer. Never knew such a great place exist knowing we are only 30 minutes away. Great for weekend getaways.

I would make this review as concise and factual as possible. I and my partner was there for a quick 2D1N getaway from HK. To our astonishment, there were around 30-40 people waiting in-line for hotel checkin at 2pm upon our arrival. The food was really expensive (170RMB for buffet lunch, 290 for buffet dinner plus 15% service charge). We arrived at the so-called complimentary breakfast to fine that all tables were filled and the manager asked us "to go find a seat ourselves". I could have given her a lecture on the spot and she arranged for us to share a table with other diners... people were almost scavenging for food and it was totally crowded...

There was ONE pool and ONE gym room for the whole hotel, and these actually belonged to the original complex so no new gym rooms or pools were constructed as part of the lavish extension block.

The rooms were OK, but given the price of our package, you could have enjoyed a lot more for a better price in CBD Guangzhou or add a little more for Thailand/Hainan etc.

was hoping for a nice weekend getaway but it just went completely wrong! Booked this hunter room with an extra bed through their reservation department weeks ahead. Thought it got sorted out - not at all. It took like 20 minutes just for the check in because they didn't update my reservation record for the extra bed plus breakfast arrangement.

Found hair in bed, called to the assistant manager desk, nobody there understood English, got transferred at least 6 times before someone noted my anger and sent up a housekeeping staff to change the blanket.

Called to the reception and placed a morning call, they've managed to miss that.

Got stopped on the way for breakfast - see room rate comes with 2 free breakfast, as there were 3 of us I've already requested for one extra breakfast which they should've taken note of. Girl at the reception firmly said no, even after checked with the front desk and her computer, still a big no. Big smack in our face.

Don't even get me started on the concierge - asked for a local Panyu/ guangzhou map, sorry, no maps available. Hang on, there is one in the room, why the bloody hell didn't you tell me? Asked for a direction to one particular place, they didn't know the way and eventually they took us to the assistant manager desk with the guy wearing the concierge golden keys for direction.

Went to the AM desk and asked for compensation - guess what the guy's given us in return................................... a tiny little white tiger stuffed toy! HOW NICE.

On the departure day, we've figured out there's something wrong on our restaurant bill at the Chinese restaurant and asked the Chime Long club desk to sort out for us, they actually took my e-mail and said they will get back to me. Well it's been a week, what more could I say. Hello????

Just terrible, if not for the location being 5 minutes away from the zoo I would've NEVER stayed here. I'd rather take a private car from downtown Guangzhou to the zoo, it's only RM200 ish.
