Need to be in Guangdong for one night and booked this hotel as it was recommended.
Took train from Hong Kong to Guangzhou East station. There's free shuttle bus from there to the hotel. Waited for about half an hour and took another 40 minutes to get to the hotel. If there are 3 or 4 of you travelling together, you can consider getting a taxi as it is dirt cheap there, should cost no more than RMB100 (USD12.50).
Arrived at around noon, the lobby is nice, bell boys were really helpful, reception staff is polite and efficient, was told that the 2 rooms are still being cleaned and therefore we cannot check in. So we went to have lunch at the Chinese restaurant first. 4 of us costed RMB178 (USD 23) and we had quite a lot. The fried noodles and pigeon are highly recommended.
The rooms are spacious (as PRC hotels generally are), with a nice balcony, the beds and air con are reasonably comfortable, toilet is very clean but there is only a shower, although the shower is big, I expected a hotel of this calibre to have a bath tub. TV is standard with quite a few channels (mainly Chinese). However, the overall impression is that the furniture used is not very nice and the room is a bit dark.
The good points include, there is free shuttle bus that takes you to the Zoo (10 mins away). The zoo is awesome, well maintained and got a wide variety of animals. Again, there's free shuttle that will take you from the zoo to the circus which is a good way to end the evening. The hotel is then only 5 minutes walk away.
Also, our package include buffet breakfast, the selection is not bad though food is average, but the best bit is you can watch 2 white tigers whilst having your breakfast which is probably the only place in Asia!!! Need to go early to try to get tables by the window as it can be quite full. Also there is an area where there are some pretty flamingoes.
We had dinner again in the Chinese restaurant at night as the Japanese restaurant is quite expensive. We had a set for 4 with shark's fin and crab and quite a lot of other dishes and it costed RMB900 (USD112) which is quite worth it. However, we were given a pair of plastic scissors for cutting up the crab and the one my sister in law used broke, the waitress and a manager actually got the cheek to ask us to pay them back for the scissors which probably cost less than 20 cents!!! We were appalled and just thought their request is absolutely ridiculous. We refused and finally got an apology from the manager.
Overall, no doubt it is a good hotel by PRC standard, but can't help to feel a little bit disappointed due to the furniture standard and the scissors incident. Not quite sure whether I will book them again if I have to stay in Guangzhou.
