Well the hotel looks old and the rooms, especially baths, desperately need renovation. In Dec 1st week winter wasn't there but the hotel would not switch on the airconditioners (central) in the room. Got unbearable hot and I called the housekeeping and they advised me to open the windows!! Left with no choice I would have done that but the traffic noise even in the middle of the night was too much. Breakfast spread was not good and vegetarian person would not have much choice. Location is nothing exceptional, it depends in which area is your work. You have to travel to most of the offices I been to. Indian restaurant Haveli bang opposite the hotel is a gem and no one interested in Indian food should miss it if in Guangzhou. Overall you would get better hotels at less price than this one so avoid it.

Check-in was a sign of things to come when they couldn't find my reservation, and didn't seem to try hard enough to help. The hotel lobby looks old, and the room looks older. The musty smell, tired carpet, poor finishings tell it all. But least the tv is flat screen and has enough international channels. The other saving grace is that you can send in your laundry at 1pm and get it back by 6pm for regular service, 1 of the fastest I've seen. 1 quirk is that housekeeping starts really early - they knock on your door at 830am. Breakfast is typical 3 star, but I guess after seeing the room, I expected worse. Not a surprise this hotel is languishing at #104 on tripadvisor, will have to stay somewhere else next time

Booked a standard room for my 3 nights stay. Upgraded to Club floor at Check In (about 250 RMB per night). The club floor is on the 23rd floor. The club floor rooms include breakfast and snacks/drinks during the day. The room on the 23rd floor was of an average size but it smelled and looked old. There is a bad fungi like smell all over the floor and especially in the room.

The staff in the club floor is very attentive and friendly. The overall experience is poor because of the room's shape in the executive floor. This is currently a 3 stars level hotel and for the money I paid, I would have expected better value.

The lobby area does not reflect the hotel. The Suite we were given had a terrible damp smell which we complained about. Our room was changed but the new room had a lighter damp smell but as we had been travelling all day we just decided top take it. the hallway floors were sticky and very worn. The restaurant we had dinner in had poor food. I had a massage in a not so nice cubicle and what seemed like a primitive setting. This hotel in my opinion needs a refurbishment and I am not in a hurry to stay there again, I honestly couldn't wait to get out of there. If you want a Holiday Inn then stay at the one in Shifu.

Located on the opposite road to the Garden Hotel and connected to the airport by the Shuttle Bus the hotel has a rear entrance not visible from the main road .The staff are good and polite and english speaking ...the downside is some rooms where airconditioning does not work and had to be changed by me after the first night .The staff insisted they had set it right ...but of no use and I was eventually moved to and airconditioning working room finally .Travel arrangements by concierge were good ...the hotel is served by only tarin connection to Hong Kong and no Shuttle Bus to Hong Kong ...but is very nicely located .Wifi is not free and is very very costly .It fails to understand why hotels are still keen on making money from guests who pay for their room stays in a city that has many a Wi fi free areas and yet its guests are fleeced to pay for their internet connections !
Breakfast is expensive and is not having much of variety nor many waiters know english language .
The rooms are nott as well maintained as other Holiday Inn properties in the same city .

Room Tip: Check Air Conditioning working before you move in

Stayed for 2 days in July in a corner Business suite. The room is starting to show its age a little with a few scuff marks here and there and the air conditioning starting to battle to keep the rooms cool. The king size bed was excellent and very comfortable along with the pillow and the flatscreen tv's have been replaced in the lounge and bedroom. There is also free wi-fi and a mini bar. Beware the mini bar prices are quite expensive for China. I walked across the road and could buy a six pack of beer much cheaper than a single can from the mini-bar. Room service and the porter service was excellent. Water is the same, walk over the road if you want to save a few dollars. At the prices they charge for the mini bar you would think you were staying i a Sheraton.

I booked this hotel after reviewing many hotels and I am happy that I selected Holiday Inn City Center. Its location is very good, in city center, all city attractions are near by (just 10 to 15 Yuan by taxi) and for fair ground approx. 35 yuan which is quite reasonable. Taxi are available at hotel gate at every time. Convince store and bank is just 2 mnts walk away. A nice Indian restaurant 'Haveli' is just at the doorstep of the hotel.
I book the business executive suit, for which, check in is at executive floor (23rd). But I am still surprised that the room was given to me on 12th floor (not on executive floor). But room was quite nice, good size living room with ample seating space, good size office table and chair (with all necessary office supplies), LCD tv in both living and bed room. Nice spacious toilet. I also got free laundry of 100 Yuan daily and also free usage of mini-bar, (soft drink only, maximum 6 per day). Complimentary use of lounge at executive floor etc. Over all it was very nice experience, very helping staff, language is no problem, almost every body knows english. Only thing I found missing was the pillow sizes were quite big (although very soft) but I prefer small pillow also as some times big pillows are not very comfortable.
