Owner description: A must-see attraction, with a history of more than 100 years and still in its original shape. The buildings are famous for their exquisite and mythical decorations, such as the brick carvings of historic figures. The temple also functions as a museum under the auspices of Guangdong Folk Arts Museum, exhibiting a variety of folk arts and crafts.

“Got a morning or afternoon to spare?”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

This attraction is easy to get to on the subway as it is right outside exit D of the Chan Clan Academy station on Line #1. If you are interested in the history of Guangzhou, this attraction would be quite fascinating. The place used to be the heart of Guangzhou walled city hundreds of years ago. The buildings are authentic. Each of the buildings house a different kind of cultural history of the Guangdong province. If you take time to visit each of the exhibits, it would probably take you 3 to 4 hours. So plan you time well.

If you are a senior, there is concession fare available, 60-65 years of age get half price (ID is required), over 65 years of age admitted for free. This applies to foreign visitor as well.

So if you've got a morning or afternoon to spare, it would be nice to visit, but I would not plan this as a high priority point of interest....just my view.

“Interesting Chinese Arts and Crafts”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

We visited this museum while waiting for our train back to Hong Kong. Much of the crafts show the workmanship that China over the centuries has been famous for. The artisans displayed here must have been at the top of their craft.

“Afternoon visit”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

Spent a pleasant afternoon wandering through the various halls with their beautiful artefacts. Well worth a visit. Plenty to see. I got in for free as I am over 65 - they ask for proof like your passport. Otherwise the price is just ten yuan, which is still very good value.

The 'folk art' museum consists of a number of works - sculptures, carvings, paintings etc. Spent about 90 minutes there.

“Better than expected”
Reviewed 11 June 2014

We visited the Chen Family Temple after visiting several temples in Beijing and found this one to be very refreshing and exciting in comparison. The artwork and detail in every inch of this place is really special and worth the trip if you are in Guangzhou. You can see that there is some influence from India there in the colors as well as the depiction of the animals that adorn the roof and trim of the building. The souvenir shops are reasonably priced and you can find some unique things there to take home as gifts or keepsakes.
