Great location, right at the pedestrian street. Good size rooms. Only not too great is the breakfast. Guangzhou being the food capital of the world I'm pretty sure they could've served up something better!! Request to transfer to the club floor! Ask the front desk guy to help.... Eh... Corporate rate perhaps??

Made a correct decision in staying in this wonderful hotel. Neat, clean, spacious and right in the middle of shopping belt. Also within walking distance to the train station and the shamian island, herb market, pets market.

Must try the charcoal grill Osyters at the small foodcourt near the entrance to the hotel. Nice and good.

Quick summary: this was a pretty nice stay with a spacious, comfortable, clean room. Very good breakfast buffet. Minor irritations that may be unique to this room kept it from earning a higher rating.

Room 1007 is very spacious, with two double beds, nice bed linens, and a good-sized sitting area. It overlooks the adjacent pedestrian shopping street of old-style Cantonese shops and cafes. All the expected amenities of a good business-class hotel: robes, nice toiletries, large safe, coffee/tea maker, iron/board, complimentary bottled water, English language TV channels.

The bathroom is spacious with a separate tub and shower.

Excellent housekeeping every day, except for one day when they forgot the hand towels. The service throughout the hotel is very friendly, helpful, and professional.

Wireless in the room has a fee, but the broadband wired connection is free and good. Good number and convenience of outlets on the desk for charging and using electronics.

The lobby area is lovely with many antiques and nice sitting areas. This is the kind of hotel where the check-in lobby and other public rooms are on the fiourth floor -- doormen greet you at street level, and elevators whisk you up to the lobby. There, you transfer to another set of elevators for the guest rooms.

I only ate in the Oasis restaurant, which is the all-purpose breakfast/lunch/dinner restaurant. Very nice modern decor with flowers, windows, etc. The breakfast buffet (included in my room rate) was very extensive with lots of things to please both Western and Asian tastes. Very good omlette man. There is also a nice-looking more formal dining room with higher end cuising. The bar/louge area is also nice for a cocktail and light snacks/meal.

Good complimentary wireless access in the public rooms.

There is a pool and fitness center, but I didn't have time to use them.

The problems were minor but many:
Wake-up calls are too soft to be effective, even with trying to adjust the volume, etc. Bring your smartphone.
A nightstand NOT well-attached to the wall, and slanted. This meant that the drawer kept sliding open unless you really smalled it -- annoying.
Weird arrangement for coordinating light switches - it was like all-or-nothing for reading lamps, etc.
TV remote didn't work.
Nice wide-shouldered hangers, but quite dinged up. Repalce by this time?
No hand towels one day

There is a legitimate spa across the street that a couple of my colleagues used for massages. Be aware that they practice Thai-style, and you may want to learn the word for "gentler" in Chinese.

The hotel is a short walk from the riverfront, and next to what looks like old Cantonese neighborhoods as well as larger buildings. A pedestrian "main street" has lots of shops and cafes -- try the nearby fish restaurant. IT's very social and lit up, especially on the weekends. You may like the nearby streets or not. For example, you can find puppies for sale from a cage, as well as the usual cheaper Chinese market stuff.

We also took a cab to a more modern shopping district in the more central part of the city, with lots of more upmarket shops and malls, i.e. fixed prices (thank god -- I hate bargaining.) To know: if you won't use the buses, arrange for a cab ahead of time if you intend to return to the hotel around dinner time. They are difficult to find that this time of day (even though you THINK there are a milllion of them,) and especially if there is a late afternoon shower, which frequently occurs.

To sum up: this was a good stay and I'd consider staying here again, but there are some annoying little issues that should be addressed. I'd be tempted to look around.

This is definitely one of my best hotel stay around Guangzhou- good value for money. Location is great as its next to the very happening 上下九 pedestrian mall. The room is clean, spacious and the air is surprisingly fresh i.e. no lingering cigarette smell. Ideal for family and businessperson!

I have stayed at this hotel before. The location is excellent as it lies in the pedestrian mall type of shopping.

I had a problem where my shirt was burnt when using the hotel's iron....but the Front Manager Kevin came to address my problem professionally....I was happy with the way he handled the situation.

I would certainly come back again to stay at this hotel in my next Canton Fair trip. (However, it would do this hotel good to have its own Canton Fair registration team and better bus trips....ie just like the other Holiday Inn at City Centre).

We booked the premium room and it is big, around 700 sq. clean and simple design room and bathroom. Has tub and stand shower, bathroom is as big as the living room itself. Staff are mostly nice. The location is so convenience that food and shopping malls are just downstairs. If this is your first time in China and this is your first hotel, you might thing the location is ugly and dirty. But most of the city in China are like that, busy, lots of people, food everywhere.

Room Tip: Don't need to upgrade for a view, because this hotel is in town and no view at all
