A 30 minutes taxi ride from the Guangzhou East station to the front of the hotel entrance, the holiday inn Guangzhou shifu is located in the heart of the pedestrian walk of shangxia jiu Lu. You can find everything here - a park and shop supermarket with 10 minutes, a subway station, cheap clothes, shoes and accessories, food stores, local eateries all you can name.
The lobby is on level 4/F, my colleague and I arrived at 9pm and proceeded with check in immediately since we were starving. The 2 receptionists were both engaged so we lined up behind them, then suddenly people from behind jumped ahead of us and asking for a room. There's something that we can't change overnight culture-wise we thought! The receptionist however was very professional and she immediately acknowledged them and asked them to wait, plus serving us before them. Obviously the ones didn't queue were irritated, yet the receptionists kept their smile and cool. Credits!
Not long before we got our room keys we were literally surrounded with people. The lady explained we were being upgraded to their executive floor however didn't mention whether the lounge access was included or not but we didn't bother asking since we wanted the room fast. Plus we won't have time.
My room was on the 13/F floor (non smoking). Had problems with the air con since it was extremely noisy, technician came and switched off and on several times and it's gotten better. One thing about the whole nice experience was, this is the first hotel that had prepared my room properly- I always email hotels ahead asking for hard/foam pillows however never was in the room before my arrival this is the first hotel that had it placed on my bed. Fantastic.
Our conference is on level 6/F a little crowded for a party of 22 but it was successful one. We constantly heard hammering noise was a little bit annoyed but nothing major.
Had in room dining on both days. There was a special menu which was really at good value- cny$38 for a fish and chips; cny$35 for a mushroom spaghetti! The truffle soup was really good however it was not hot enough when it arrived. The second day I had Russian bortsch it was nothing like what I had in Russia nor anywhere. The spice was so strong I could hardly drink and had to give up the whole dish for my stomach's sake after one sip.
Breakfast is on the lobby level. Good salad bar good selection with western and Chinese however I'm more a western style person so I was extremely disappointed with the hash brown and bacons as they were cold.
Check out was done quickly without any fuss.
I will be back in September!
