“Absolutely fantastic hotel”
Reviewed 23 October 2008

Everything about this hotel is top notch, believe me it is worth the little extra. Hey Hollyfield was here! Even the way they have different types of leads in every room so you can connect your laptop to the TV is just brilliant! And don't miss the breakfast. I did not get a chance to explore the area so I can't comment on that. My only downer is that the internet is not free and is rather slow. In China do not underestimate the value of having one member of staff in a hotel who is actually able to speak English properly. At the Ritz Carlton, virtually every member of staff speaks good english. They understand hospitality at this hotel! You can't go wrong here!

I have stayed in this hotel with my husband, who was in Guangzhou on a business trip. Also staying with us was our 17 month old daughter.

The staff in the hotel were fantastically friendly, helpful and lovely. In particular the concierge staff at the Residences, where we stayed, went above and beyond the call of duty to help us out in a strange city, with a language we did not speak, and with the difficulties associated with traveling with a toddler. (For example, one staff member lent us his own money to enable us to book an airline ticket over the internet, as we did not realise the booking would not accept international credit cards.)

We have no complaints - the pool was lovely, the room was fantastic, the breakfast and dining room staff very good.

Perhaps the only shortcoming was the level of servicing the rooms - the room attendants, while just as friendly and lovely as all the other staff, were fairly ineffectual with dusting, wiping and sweeping (very necessary for us given we have a small child who makes a lot of mess).

However, that is a small shortcoming in what has been a lovely experience.

  • Liked — Staff friendliness, rooms.
  • Disliked — Room cleaning standards.

A World Class Hotel, Great rooms, bathroom, showers etc. A real santuary from the hustle and bustle of the city. Beside the language difficulty of the staff and array of comical errors which were frustrating at first, it is still the best place to stay in China. Far superior to hotels such as the overrated peninsula hotel Beijing which is made to look like a 2 star hotel as opposed to the ritz carlton.
The staff were extremely friendly, up to a point where they were very irritating, it felt like you had a welcoming party everwhere you went. Please guys tone it down.
Internet connection was poor and dont bother with the club room, the breakfast in the restaurant downstairs is far better.

Having stayed in a few Guangzhou hotels (Garden, Marriott, Westin, Shangri-la etc), this is simply the best hotel in the city.

The quality of service makes the real difference, however the rooms, restaurants, spa are also fantastic. The pool area is lovely, although a little shallow throughout, but the poolside jacuzzi makes up for it.

Try the aromatherapy at the spa - 90 mins of bliss for around 70USD. Foods is the main restaurant (breakfast etc) and we had a great meal there, plus nice malts in the Churchill bar.

Location is in Zhujiang new city part (think Pudong in Shanghai equivalent), still only 10 mins from station to HK.

Thoroughly recommend.
