Excellent location...but...the two different rooms (on the 9th floor) that we were assigned had filthy rugs, and when the front desk staff was advised, refused to believe the evidence. The buffet breakfast was mediocre. Definitely not a 5-star hotel in our opinion. More like a 3-star mass tourist hotel...

The Lijiang Hotel is the type of hotel of which you will not keep any particular memories, neither good nor bad.
It is built in the usual pompous oversized Chinese style.
Rooms are good (but no hand shower in the bathroom), internet relatively fast (if you do not hit a censored website), and - mass turism has advantages - most people speak basic English.
Breakfast is acceptable for foreigners.
Some rooms (the ones with view to the pedestrian street) are very noisy.
The waterfall spectacle, to be seen from the main square is spectacular (in fact, it is water running down the facade) for 30 minutes, but fortunately, there is plenty of water in Guilin.

This is an excellent Chinese-style luxury hotel (a good 4 star hotel by western standards). Rooms are clean, modern and reasonably spacious as are the bathrooms although the shower is a little tight and it takes a while to get hot water but it is spotlessly clean and modern. Nice views either over the central square or the pagodas on the lake if you pay a bit more. Free internet works well. Beds are Chinese-style. i.e. some people will find them too hard.

Public areas are huge albeit rather characterless - very 'communist-grand'. Staff try their best and are friendly but as in most of China there is a language barrier when you get beyond the basics.

Restaurants and bar are expensive and breakfast is average quality but does have an amazing variety of items, the selections seem to go on forever spread around the restaurant!

Location is as good as it gets in Guilin - the lake with pagodas is at the back, the central square at the front (check out Little Hong Kong under the square for shopping), the main street with night markets and shops to one side, and a really nice pedestrian street with shops and restaurants on the other side. Can also recommend Li River Cuisine next door for delicious local food (they have an English menu!). The waterfall show is also a pretty cool unique feature of the hotel!

We checked in quite late from Xian, and was met by our tour guide and he accompanied us to this hotel arranged by our travel agency . Impressive from the outside, the reception/ receptionist area is huge but without any character ! The receptionist did not speak English at all, fortunately we were accompanied by our tour guide. The room is very spacious, clean, and even if it a non smoking floor we still bumped into some people walking around with their cigarettes! Quite annoying. But welcome to China! Internet is provided free in your rooms, not fast but it is ok to keep in touch with your family. Breakfast is huge, and generous, they allow guests to take out lots of food with them! Location is great, right next to the walking street, restaurants and by the lake. Apart from the non English speaking unfriendly, cold staff, the hotel is good for its location. I suggest that management should train staff to be more welcoming, a smile makes a lot of
difference ! The SPA needs some supervision, we had a massage, supposed to be 90 minutes but it turned out to be 60 minutes only, and paid the full price. It's dirty, smelly , the pillow smells so badly that I had to request for two towels to cover it! Massage was good the way I like it. The masseuse insisted a tip!

My husband and I stayed here in early April. We really liked the hotel. It was close to shopping and restaurants. We had the hotel set us up with a driver for one of the days we visited and were quite happy with the gentleman they hired for us. The hotel gives you two bottles of water daily and a plate of fresh whole fruit upon arrival. The room was clean and the hotel was very quiet. The hotel was well priced as well. The hotel is quite well known because they have a waterfall show every evening at the back of their hotel. Really this is just water cascading down the glass of the hotel and the fountain is going at the same time but it is pretty to watch for a few minutes. I would happily stay here again.

If you book this hotel from travel agency or some website, you will find the hotel is different from that you know from the introduction. Yes, it is a 5-star hotel in Guilin, but the staffs, facilities and the living condition do not like the ones that 5-star hotel have. I am disappointed by the poor facilities and the restaurants are also average. If you do not have much money, but want to enjoy 5-star hotel in Guilin, you can consider this hotel, In my opinion, this hotel is just a 3-4-star hotel standard, not 5-star!

Room Tip: Better choose the rooms and suites with riverview!!!

A bit pricy, but great location and altogether great experience. The rooms are spacious, clean, and comparable to a average-to-high-end American hotel. The views and the location are worth the price.
Be sure to walk around Center Square and see the Waterfall show at night.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the south overlook a lake and the Sun & Moon Pagodas. These offer great views; but...
