Jin Jiang International Hotel Xi'an

As stated in previous reviews, the hotel is outside the city center but as we were part of a guided tour, this was of no concern to us. Also, other members of our party went out on their own by Taxi to the city center quite easily and said the cost was inexpensive. The hotel itself is huge and beautiful with an atrium in the center, beautiful flowers everywhere, hanging crystal lighting ornaments, and several lovely seating arrangements throughout the public areas. The buffet breakfast was sumptuous and in a beautiful dining area. The rooms were very spacious with all the amenities including slippers and thick terrycloth robes. The service was wonderful. We availed ourselves of room service and the laundry service - both impeccable and not expensive at all. The Concierge and the Front Desk staff spoke English, the rest of the staff - very little but they made sure to communicate with one of the staff that did speak English to make sure our wishes were understood. There is also a theater and convention center adjoining the hotel. We enjoyed our stay there immensely.

This is not the place for you if you want to be in or near the city centre. It is close to the terra cotta warriors museum and It was the perfect spot for us. This was the last stop of our 11day china guided tour and a perfect hotel to end our stay. Our room was spacious and the beds were comfortable, attentive staff, awesome breakfast food selection, a beautiful fitness facility, pool and sauna. Remember to bring a swim cap. The hotel also maintains a 2km jogging path, and there is a children's outdoor playground. For our last night we dined in the German restaurant, the veal schnitzel melts in your mouth and the beer is brewed on site by a German brew master. A great spot to end our trip!

If you're solely in Xi'an to see the Terracotta Warriors, then the Kempinski is not a bad place for your stay. However, do note that the hotel is very isolated and sorting out transport to the city of Xi'an will be an additional consideration if you would like to explore more that the First Emperor's mausoleum site museum.

As the hotel is built possibly to house massive tour groups and accommodate big-number conventions and business meetings, the hotel is huge and can seem rather impersonal for that reason. Also, due to its huge capacity and pricier rate, it is not always fully-occupied so the room I got had a strange musty smell that was not helped by a malfunctioning air-conditioner. After asking maintenance to sort it out a few times, they did offer to change our room for us. However, as there were not many days left to our visit, we declined and had to suffer a stuffy, slightly pongy room for a few nights.

The bathroom drains also had a bad whiff of back flow from lack of use.

Food options in the hotel were limited to 3 - a very poor Chinese restaurant, a coffee house (where breakfast is served) and a German Bierkeller which was the only establishment that remained open beyond 9pm.

As this was a business trip for us, we often worked late and were not able to travel out of the hotel for meals, leaving us with no option except the Bierkeller for food. While the microbrewery made very good beer, it became a bit bizarre dining on German sausages and sauerkraut in the middle of nowhere near the Chinese city of Xi'an for the better part of a week.

We stayed here 2 nights with family and friends on a guided tour.
The hotel is stunning and the rooms were excellent; large rooms, comfortable beds.

The hotel is remote from any local services so be prepared to pay resort prices for all supplies.

Our tour guide was good enough to call into a local Convenience store to allow us to pick up some local Tsingtao beer at 4 RMB per can to supplement the expensive (35 RMB) hotel min-bar supplies. Otherwise you'll be taking a cab to get replenishments.

Oh.... and if you're expecting a working fridge in the room... forget it. Fridges in China, with some minor exceptions appear to be storage containers. The Chinese drink their liquids, including water, beer and soda warm. In some bars you can get cold glasses and even cold bottled beer. I didn't find this to be the case in the room fridges.

Room Tip: The rooms are very HOT for me. Our first room was 27 degrees Celsius and this was with an outside te...

I found the service at this hotel excellent and above and beyond what was required. We had an executive room which was very roomy and clean and comfortable. The bathroom the same. There was a fair choice of restaurants and the food of a good standard. The location is accessible to the airport and the terracotta warriors, but a distance from the city centre, although it is fun using the underground to the nearest station and then a taxi. All taxis are reluctant to come this far out and so you need to pay more than the meter price. We paid 50 RMB which is about 3 times the meter rate but only £5 UK , so not that bad. When negotiating the underground everyone was very tolerant and more than helpful. The concierge was very helpful and willing. To make this work you just need to be a bit more flexible.

Room Tip: This is a very nice hotel and the rooms with river view are good especially the executive rooms whic...

The hotel is too far from the centre to be a viable location to visit the city. If you are "fortunate" to be ugraded to a river view room, you will also be seranaded late into the evening by the live band at the riverside barbecue, which is mediocre at best. The concierge arranged a guided trip to the terracotta warriors but (not the hotel's fault) there was a cycle race on the booked morning and I had a two mile walk to meet the car.
When I booked a taxi to the airport, the concierge set me up with one of his mates at three times the proper fare. I was suffering from food poisoning at rhe time (again not the hotel's fault -I think) and didn't catch on until it was too late. Be careful, you have been warned!
