“Good hotel in great location”
Reviewed 14 April 2010

Location - which other reviewers have already mentioned. Must be mentioned again. A lot can be overlooked for this hotel's location as it is so centrally located. We especially loved walking around in the Muslim quarter, and it is so easy to get to it from the hotel via the underground passage as well as to many shops and to the Drum and the Bell Towers.

We found some although not all of the staff helpful. There is wifi available ONLY by the front desk, and not in other parts of the lobby. One concierge worked about 30 minutes on my laptop before giving up and then told me I could connect in my room! That's China! Full of paradox... I also had a great 30 minute foot massage in the spa in an otherwise totally empty room set up for at least 8 clients.

Our room did not face the Bell Tower for which we were grateful as it was much quieter and we didn't spend much time in there anyway. It was small but adequate and clean. The bed was hard but we didn't stay anywhere in CHina were that wasn't true. We called whenever we needed anything and got what we needed. We used the laundry service and were pleased with it. It was fast and efficient. Breakfast was so-so, served in a large room. Plenty of choices and you could have eggs made to your specifications by a chef as you waited but it suffered from the deficiencies of trying to feed large numbers of people buffet style.

On our last night we ate at the restaurant on the first floor which has a street entrance, can't remember the name, maybe the Abalone? It was quite good, and the service was excellent.

When we left the following morning, early, to go to the airport, we had refused to have the airport order a driver and car since it was more expensive and said we'd take our chances with a metered taxi, sure enough, they not only got us a taxi, but managed to have him drive up to the front door - where there are normally hordes and masses of pedestrians. It was a nice send off.

So, we do recommend the hotel, keeping in mind that it is not a five star hotel, but has many more advantages than disadvantages, and that in China, not everything goes the way you think it should...

Stayed at this hotel for 3nights during the chinese new year period.

We were allocated a room facing the bell tower! Absolutely stunning view when the bell tower is lit up at night. Plenty of shopping centres and food surrounding the hotel . Bearing in mind that this hotel is located right at the corner of the huge roundabout. If you would prefer a more peaceful rest, then request for a room on the opposite side because the traffic at the roundabout would wake you up with all the horns going off!

Breakfast was not included but we trialed the breakfast on the next morning at $50YUAN per person and i felt it was really below average. You would be much happier having breakfast at McDonalds which is located right opposite the hotel - we had to be ready at 730am as I had a driver who would picked me up on a daily basis to visit the historical sites in Xi'an. There's really not much choice apart from McDonalds at that time!

There's free internet through the RJ45 jack as well.(located in room).

The best location possible for everything. The rooms are clean, spacious and well distributed. We had booked 3 rooms for 5 people and surprisingly when we asked for a map of the city reception charged us 10 yuans for this - incredible!!

When we arrived (3 pm) the rooms were not ready and we were invited to the bar for a drink. "Drink" means only soft drinks. We were charged for water!!

The concierge is a very pushy with excursions and from the minute you arrive you get hassled with private transport to the warriors of Xian. If you continue to ignore all requests and ask for the trains and buses the prices keep dropping - started at 800 yuans and ended at 300!

All in all the hotel is wonderfully located and the rooms are very good.

The hotel is in an excellent location with everything nearby and walkable distance, very clean and airy underpasses so you don't have to dodge the traffic to walk somewhere.

The rooms we had (inter connecting) were really tiny, I had requested a triple room for my three children and it just fit the third bed with no room for anything else! The rooms smelt of cigarette smoke (even though they were supposed to be non smoking)! The bathroom wasn't too clean either and it was tiny!

If it wasn't for the great location I would have complained to trailfinders who had recommended this hotel to me.

Luckily our rooms didn't include breakfast, there is a McDonalds across the road from the hotel and also a stall outside which sold thinly sliced vegetables encased in a pancake for a few yuan which my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed! We did try the breakfast on the day we were departing and it was a great letdown! Very poor choice and quality for the money they were charging.

Stayed here for a night while visiting the nearby Terracotta army. Hotel was very nice and clean, beautiful rooms and with a great location. Step outside the door and you can walk to many of the great sights around Xi'an, shopping is just around the corner as well. Staff was nice and helpful and the breakfast had a vast selection (european, american, chinese). Great stay over all, no complaints what so ever.

This hotel is just perfect, not expensive, breakfast was very good although they might consider extending the dining area a bit, it was very crowded but despite that, coffee was served all the time, there was refills for bread etc and friendly staff all the while! Rooms were clean but a bit run down.

We opted for a delux room with view and got just that - overlooking the drum tower. Noise from five lanes of traffic ok. The room definately needed a good lick of paint and a new carpet - it was filthy.

This hotels central location means it's great for exploring the centre of Xi'ian

We thought the standard of this hotel was poor. All the staff we encountered looked miserable and not at all happy to to be working there. None were particularly helpful either.

If you want a good central location, basic level of service and a bed for the night then stay here, don't expect anything else.

If this hotel was in the UK I'd rate it 2-3 star
