Stayed 2 nights at this modern hotel, in a double room with all the facilities you would need for your stay.. Good breakfast spread on both days and it is best to take several adaptors if visiting China, as some hotels use two flat pins, others 2 round and then even the three round pins we use in the UK- so make sure you have a selection if touring and staying at different hotels. As we were leaving very early for a flight they even opened their restaurant for us before the normal time, and laid on the full spread.

I had the best lamb chops from New Zealand, on my first night, pity the french fries were cold, and I could not explain this adequately to the staff there- Must learn languages.

A beautiful vibrant city, and there are shops nearby, plus you can walk to the city wall which I visited with my group.

We had a quick stay of 2 night here as part of our GateOne tour. Because we had tours, we never had to get around on our own, but the hotel was a great place to spend our off time. The breakfasts were good and in the evening the dining room served many International choices that are very good. I had great curry. The apple pie didn't have traditional crust, but it was really good with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

And the koi pond infront of the emperor monument is fascinating & peaceful

My husband and I recently stayed at the Grand New World Hotel in Xi'an. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The gift shop in hotel was great. The rooms were very comfortable and the beds were huge. The location of the hotel could have been better though.

We stayed here as part of a tour and we were all impressed. Our room was clean and enough room for all our luggage etc.The breakfast buffet was good and we even ate dinner there one night. Free wi-fi in the lobby. Xian was lovely to visit and we really enjoyed the cylcle around the city wall, even if our butts didn't.We managed to block our toilet but it was fixed by the time we returned that night.

The hotel was just a short walk from the old city wall and there were lots of shops nearby for buying water, etc. Our room overlooked a Buddhist temple where we could see people lighting the candles/fireworks and praying - really interesting. The room was great - large and clean. But the reason the Grand New World was our favorite out of all the cities we visited was their fabulous Western food restaurant! The first night my husband had their delicious New Zealand lamb chops with corn on the cob and french fries and that was it - we had to go back again for our second night there. I loved their spring rolls and fried shrimp. After having loads of Chinese family style meals as part of our 2 week tour package, the few times we were free for meals- we always went for good Western style cuisine to give us a break and this was the best of the trip. Also their breakfast buffet was the best we had too - from their tasty zucchini bread to their French toast with real maple syrup to the fruits, nuts, eggs made to order, pastries, etc.
By the way If you want to see China, definitely Gate 1 travel is the place to use. From getting the visa for China (which is quite involved) to your flights/hotels/meals/sightseeing - Gate 1 really provides excellent service and value. Their guides are knowledgeable and helpful, the bus drivers are skillful and considerate, and the hotels (like Grand New World) are first class and well-located. We just came back from their 2 week trip in April doing Shanghai, the Yangtze River cruise, Xian, and Beijing and it was a pleasure having someone shepherd us around. You are given enough free time or other excursions you can book with them so you can "customize" your trip for your own taste. We have used Gate 1 before for Turkey, Egypt, and Europe so we know they consistently provide good service/prices. But with China we felt it was even more important to go with a tour company that has the right "connections".

Wonderful entrance hall overlooked by the enormous statues behind a large koi pond, not to mention the enormous murals. The reception was fast and effiecient with some of the staff speaking a little English. The room was large, window overlooking the old city, the carpet did need a clean though, otherwise excellant. It also overlooked a buddhist monastry. Breakfast was a typical buffet, oriental, western, continental or any combination you choose. The big surprise was that the theatre for one of the Tang Dynasty Shows was part of the hotel complex. The show was wonderful and the food, various dumpling dishes, lots of them, was an experience itself.

I loved the location within the city wall and only about a block from the wall. The lobby was beautiful with a koi pond out back and huge carving of Qin emperior. The rooms were ok, a bit dingy and the carpet was very dirty. I think I must have had a smoking room that they tried to clean because my eyes and nose burned from a chemical smell that was like you smell in new carpet or furniture but there was nothing new in my room. My parents across the hall did not have the same smell in their room. Breakfast had a wide selection of both eastern and western food. Wi-fi was not working most of the time.
