“Comfortable stay, somewhat nondescript hotel”
Reviewed 20 March 2009

Had a very comfortable 2 night stay at the Jinshi International. Rooms are spacious and the restaurant has a very decent buffet breakfast. Within walking distance to Big Wild Goose Pagoda but far enough outside Xi’an city walls to necessitate a cab. Most people stay in Xi’an only a few days on the way to see the terra cotta warriors; we were no exception. Please understand that this is a perfectly adequate western hotel; I just don’t like to artificially inflate hotel ratings on tripadvisor. I give this place 3 stars because I find it difficult to write anything particularly special or spectacular about it to legitimately award it a higher rating despite the fact that I would stay here again as well as recommend it to others.

We had a 6 night stay and got married here. Although it may not be a real 5 star hotel we have no complaints. We had free buffet breakfast, driven to and from the airport for free and use of the gym. The internet was 20RMB for 30min and a little slow.

The lobby bar was a little extreme with prices but they did make a good latte; expect to pay $21RRMB for local beer and $38 for coffee plus tax.

The surrounding streets are great, little eateries everywhere (make sure you try the chinese hamburger) . The big Goose Pagoda is within walking distance as well as the shaanxi art museum.

Getting to the city (inside the city wall) will cost about 10-15RMB depending on the driver of course.

Bring you chapstick! it can get a little dry at night.

Excellent hotel (modern design, nice & clean rooms) breakfast was nice. The people at the business center helpful and they had the cheapest internet rate in all Chinese hotels that I stayed. General the staff of the hotel are friendly and helpful. Great location, you can walk to the square of the Pagoda where the evening (9 o’clock) you can see the show of the water fountain. Only set back was the swimming pool that was under construction (in the internet site they do not mention that).

Not 4 stars hotel. 2 and a half, may be.

Group of 10 people. Great staff. Very helpful. Great room reservation. Arrange tour bus (airport pick up - drop off, Terra Cotta trip, tour of Xian).

Room Air conditioner/heater did not work. Staff gave us extra blanks to keep warm.

But their hotel web site email address is incorrect.

Free broadband. One breakfast ticket for 2 persons per room. We have to pay extra 50rmb (US$8) for the second person. Breakfast and dinner buffet are average. Stay away from the deserts.

We stayed here on a group tour of China. We arrived the day of the earthquake (May 12, 2008). The employees had just been allowed to re-enter the building about five minutes before we arrived (that's what the tour guide said anyway). Our room had a thin layer of plaster dust on everything -- maid service apparently hadn't had time to clean up after the quake -- but I'd have to say it's a pretty sound building since that's all the damage our room sustained. I felt the people were really courteous and professional in getting us our rooms and checking to make sure we were okay, considering they probably had other things on their minds at the time (like checking the news and making sure their own families were okay).

The hotel has an impressive lobby, and the rooms were really nice despite the dust. The only thing I found a little confusing is that the hotel occupies only part of the building. So, you enter the building on the ground level, and then you go to the 7th floor (or maybe the 9th -- I don't remember exactly) to find the main lobby of the hotel and check in (and later check out, of course); our room was two or three floors up from that; and the breakfast buffet was on yet a different floor. It wasn't a big deal, just a lot to remember. The breakfast was nice, serving both eastern and western breakfast foods. Overall, it was a nice place to stay.

I was on a Chinaspree tour and stayed at this hotel. The lobby is spectacular and the rooms very spacious. The breakfast was good. I didn't notice any smell. The ladies in the business center were very helpful even though they didn't speak English. We didn't wander around the area since we were taken everywhere on the tour.
