The Ibis is a great no-frills place to stay for very little cost. We paid the equivalent of $28 per night in Xi'an. Easy 35 min drive from the airport and close to the train station. Chinese breakfast was included in the price and wireless high-speed internet was available in the lobby - there are a cluster of tables and chairs used for breakfast you can sit at and get a good wifi signal. The hotel was very modern and clean. Highly recommended.

Stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. The standard Ibis rooms are somewhat small but clean of and confortable. Location of the hotel is good, not far from the city wall and major sites.
The breakfast buffet, included in the price, is very simple, but more than acceptabable if cnsidering the price.
The staff is also very helpful.

The Ibis would probably rate as the best value hotel we stayed at after months in China - only 158RMB/night. We booked in after reading the good reviews and we weren't disappointed. The check-in experience and front desk reception were fairly average for China - it is rare to get really good service at budget hotels. The location is OK, being within the city walls, however it is a 15min hike to get to where the main action is, the train station, bus station, etc. This is probably one of it's only weaknesses.

The room was great, ample size and layout, well lit, and spotlessly clean and well maintained. The room was quiet, with no street noise or hallway noise. We got a room on the non-smoking floor (6th floor) and it was heaven after having to put up with reeking rooms all over China! There is AC and heat but no fridge. The bathroom is a good size with a fully enclosed shower stall - and the shower is excellent. The TV has only Chinese channels and the bed was comfy. The room had a very comfortable, cozy feel to it, a good place to hole up if the weather is foul.

One thing we didn't like was the smoke-filled lobby/dining area. Bring your own air tanks if you don't like foul tobacco smoke!

The breakfast buffet is good value at 15RMB, a mixture of Chinese and Western, but don't leave it too late or there won't be much good stuff left. Reasonable prices for food and drinks from the cafe.

Overall, we loved this place, and would definitely stay there again. Highly recommended to all budget travellers.

The Ibis Xian was a good value and we would recommend it for budget travel. It was not fancy, but provided good service for the 5 nights we were there in January. We came by airport shuttle bus to the main part of town (drop off at the Melody Hotel a short distance from the Bell Tower and then took a taxi to the hotel. We mostly walked everywhere, but were able to find both taxis and buses for more distant attractions (terra cotta warriors, etc.). We checked in at the Ibis Hotel Room 606 on January 17. The sixth floor is non-smoking, but the room smelled and we were immediately moved to room 622. They have free broadband in the rooms and wireless in the lobby and restaurant area. It was slow, but they do have it. They have some English TV stations (BBC news, Discovery, etc.). The hotel buffet breakfast is only 15 yuan or about $2 USD and includes coffee, juice, tea, oriental noodles, dumplings, toast, Chinese vegetables and, fruit salad. The food was enough to get us going each morning. The lobby bar was inexpensive. A beer was 15 yuan and Jack Daniels was 28 yuan. Mixer / soda was separate and inexpensive. The night manager was very friendly and speaks English well. Everyone was been very courteous and the hotel was clean. Both check-in (late evening) and check-out (early morning with wake-up call) were efficient. The bill was accurate with no surprises. We had laundry done by the hotel at a very reasonable price. We were at the end of the first week of an eight-week trip. We had a week’s worth of jeans and shirts done and including 5 nights hotel, bar bill and laundry it was only $140 USD. The conversion rate when we were there was about $23 per night.

Rooms were typical Ibis - simple, minimally furnished - but were clean and pleasant, no strange smells that one can expect from a locally managed budget hotel. Given the price we paid (RMB130 per room per night), we thought it was quite a bargain. Location is quite off from the city center, although pretty close to one stretch of the citywall. We walked, anyway, to and from the city center mostly, since that is the best way to see more of the place, and we managed it in about 45mins to an hour. Service attitude, though, was not desirable, but we thought we can't complain too much since it was cheap. Breakfast too was, accordingly to me (Singaporean) and my in-laws' (Swedish) tastes, far from delectable. However, given again that it costs only RMB15, the spread was reasonable.

Stayed here with our three kids (7, 5 and 3 years old). It was great for us as we were not going to be spending any time in the hotel anyway and just needed a place to keep our stuff and shower/sleep. AMAZING value - just so cheap! The staff were very accomodating and very pleasant. We also used the travel place in the lobby which was more expensive than getting someone off the street but reliable and convenient.
Plus points:
Clean, got everything you need (even a small kettle), great location (walk to the city wall from here - the East Gate, don't bother doing what we did and go to South gate by taxi - much nicer to walk there along the wall), nice people, good shower, very clean bathroom (kids loved the 'airplane' bathroom - very compact!).
Super cheap.
Minus points. No interconnecting rooms (but they bent over backwards to get us two next to each other and gave us a three-bed for the price of a two-bed). Thin walls - very noisy - take earplugs. Horrific breakfast buffet - just don't do it - it may cost £1 but you get what you pay for! Super ughh and very poor quality ingredients. Take a short walk or very cheap taxi to Starbucks if you crave a western-style start to the day. The whole foyer is like a smokers den - reeks and is full of smoke all day (which didn't make breakfast any nicer) - foul if you don't smoke (I'm sure its lovely if you do!).

We went out to dinner each night - all the big hotels do a massive buffet which will leave you groaning. About £10 for all you can eat and a beer/soft drink - younger kids eat free.
We tried the Sofitel - snotty unfriendly service (they should take some tips from the lowly Ibis and get their heads out from wherever they have put them - somewhere dark) but great food - really good quality ingredients, amazing variety and beautifully presented (I do like my food to look pretty!). We had to ask to find out about the beer etc and the attitude was frankly depressing - not one member of staff anywhere greeted us or smiled - such a shame as it looks pretty swanky. We then tried the slightly shabby Hilton - same lousy service but not such good food so we went back to the Sofitel the next night (the kids loved the fresh noodles).

Nice, clean, well maintained budget hotel, with decent, clean, well maintained and for the price, roomy rooms. Very reasonable price, $23/night. Staff tried but due to lack of training and language ability not very helpful
