“Very BAD taxi arrangement from airport”

1st time I looked another way when I arrived at the airport and the taxi arrangement made by Shangri-la was not there to pick me up; my flight was delayed, and no one is to be blamed. It is frustrating that it happened the 2nd time. My flight details were emailed to the hotel 2 days before my flight. I arrived at the airport after 12 hours of flight and waited for 45 min. Then I called the hotel and realised the taxi was not arranged and was told to take a taxi myself. Taxi drivers from the airport refuse to use the meter and both times I was over-charged because I do not know the price to travel from the airport to the hotel. The management tried to be so meticulous over little details at the hotel but failed terribily to make simple arrangements like this! Honestly, this has given me such a negative impression of Shangri-la. There are plenty of good hotels in Xi'an and many big chains hotel coming up! I am sure leisure and business travellers like myself have better choices to choose from. It was a very frustrating experience and I don't trust you any more Shangri-la.

Far. Yes. Literally. Although good to get away from the madness that is Xian, the biggest drawback of this hotel for us was its distance from all things touristy. It was at least a 30 minute bus trip (on a packed bus) to get to the areas of the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda and Bell and Drum Towers. From what we could gather, the metro system was fairly limited in Xian, with only 3 lines, and the hotel did not appear to be anywhere close to a station. Bus and train timetables also appeared to be non-existent and taxis extremely hard to flag down, so if we strayed from our main bus route, it was very difficult getting back to the hotel. On one evening, we spent approx. 1 hour trying to flag down a taxi or find a stop for a bus number that we recognised. It was very frustrating. The lower score we have given this hotel (despite scoring high in individual categories) is primarily because of this, which we found to be a major inconvenience (particularly given all the additional time required to go farther afield, such as to the Terracotta Warriors). We also found the food at the hotel's "western" restaurant to be expensive and disappointing. Steaks consisting mainly of fat should not be served in any restaurant, let alone in a 5 star hotel. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel, so cannot comment on that. However, having stayed at many Shangri-La Hotels throughout the world, we found this hotel to be sub-standard in quality (although excellent in service).

A really top run hotel. Pleasure to stay there and endorse the quality of the staff and folks that run this place. The choice of the buffet at the breakfast, the quality of the Guest Relations team, Housekeeping, Front Desk.. all was just as how it should be. Professional and yet personal in a nice way!

We stayed here after 8 days in Beijing. The service and the hotel were excellent and the tour that we took through the hotel was wonderful. We used the spa, the fitness center, the Cafe and the Horizon Lounge, we can not recommend this place enough, it was a fantastic addition to our trip!

Very kind welcome, efficient check-in. Concierge extremely helpful for organising car, visit, etc. rooms are very well equipped and well maintained, big king bed and reasonably priced. Breakfast is a discovery and very good! Just pay attention, it is difficult to get a taxi ...so better organise a car with driver from the concierge. Distances are important.

Excellent hotel property. Every amenity one could want. Would stay again if in this part of the world. Ease of checking in and out. Friendly service. Rooms large, beds luxurious. Bathrooms grand!!!!!!

The staff in this hotel was amazing! Everyone was very attentive and made sure we were satisfied. We were greeted at the door with juice and wet towels. The rooms were a standard size for a typical hotel, but there was still space for us to be comfortable. The breakfast was great with a large selection. It was pretty crowded, but they balanced the amount of people well. I think the location could have been a bit better. We really didn't get to venture out on our own as comfortably as we would have liked to, but we were in a pretty safe part of town.

Room Tip: The keycard thingy for the lights can be activated with a piece of paper. No need to juggle keys to...
