Chaxiang Lishe Holiday Inn

This holiday inn may be more appealing to travellers who wished to stay away from downtown area.Rooms are clean, wifi available.Breakfast was average though, not much of variety .This holiday inn is favourite among the local crowds, as it was fully booked the few days ive stayed there.service was good and the staff are helpful and polite.

First things first - this boutique hotel which used to be a youth hostel and was upgraded about two years ago is not perfect, but with a little more effort it will be - breakfast is a bit dull and uninspiring, containing only (very) simple Chinese fare plus coffee and bread, and rooms are very clean but not spotless and you won't find your bed meticulously made every morning like in these big, star-rated hotels.
BUT, the bright side here is very bright - rooms are well designed and furnished, each has a different look and style, and most have their own separate living room and balcony (a big plus with kids); the surrounding is great, just 10-15 minutes from Hangzhou's east lake, with a nice village feel and beautiful views of the hills (the are quite a few bus lined that stop 5 minute - steep downhill - from the hotel, if you don't have a car); service is attentive and warm; the nice common yards are a great place for kids to run around; during lunch and dinner you can order very good and reasonably priced Chinese home cooking; and most important - value for money here is amazing for Hangzhou's standards.
Will recommend it to anyone over the chained hotels in the city. Take into account though hardly any English is spoken which can also affect the booking process, and you have to book in advance since it's very popular with the local crowd.
