Great place to stay, beautiful room and nice view of the city. Well decorated, many English speakers employed by the hotel to assist you. Breakfast wonderful, beautifully decorated. $735 for 3 nights, if ever go back would probably try the Courtyard next door, about half the price and appears to be just as nice. But the breakfast might make the JW Marriott worth it.

Room Tip: Check out the Courtyard next door, actually in the same building for maybe a cheaper stay

The original reservation for two rooms was with the Courtyard. Check in was handled with very happy, friendly staff.

When I entered my assigned room, it appeared that there was already a guest assigned to that room. As a result I went back to the lobby to request a new room. The person I originally spoke with was the front office manager and he was quite apologetic that such a mistake had been made. He immediately told me that he would be moving me to the JW Marriott (same building just different side) since they had no upgradable rooms available (full hotel). I said it wasn’t necessary since my colleague would be checking in later that day and that we would prefer to stay in the same hotel. He then told me that he would move my colleague to the JW Marriott as well.

The manager walked me over to the JW Marriott and worked with the front desk staff there to check me in.

Unfortunately, my colleague was not actually moved to the JW Marriott so there was a bit of miscommunication with documents not being delivered to him when he checked in.

Room at JW Marriott
The room was quite cozy. Décor was white painted wood. This made it seem very bright. No issues with noise.

Construction is underway to change the entrance of the Courtyard and JW Marriott.

Marriott Gold Level Information – Club/Executive lounge access and free breakfast in the lounge or restaurant.

Outside restaurants and shopping areas are located nearby the hotel. Small fruit store and convenience stores are quite close. Exit the hotel. Go to the right. At the corner take another right and walk along side the hotel building. Once you reach the end of the building you should see a number of small stores. This is where you will see the fruit store and the convenience store. If you walk another block, you will come to a large mall and you will see the ubiquitous Starbucks. Keep wandering through the mall and try to get to the basement. There you will find a grocery store along with a number of restaurants/food court. Sushi , ice cream, bakery, crepe stands, various Chinese restaurants and a Pizza Hut. Other restaurants are scattered in other areas of the mall as well.

The rooms at this hotel are fantastically huge. My corner room was well decorated - spacious bedroom, large walk-in closet, and nicely equipped bathroom with a great tub. Where this hotel falls short is in attention to service. Don't go to the ill-named Velocity Bar if you expect speed!

This is a fantastic hotel with a glamorous lobby, lavish decorations and perfect service. Rooms are spacious and they were very clean. we were upgraded the first two nights to a junior suite. Facilities are excellent, the gym has state of the art equipment. Breakfast was excellent and those working there were very attentive.
The hotel is located in a more busy part of the city, what is a good thing for those there for business, just couple blocks for where the buses from Shanghai arrive.
Some of the most important attractions of Hangzhou are located around the lake district, and the hotel is a little far from there. We were in Hangzhou for pleasure and had no problem walking to the Lake, but if one does not want to walk another good option is to catch a bus or a cab.
We have to say that the concierge was incredible friendly and helpful, he help us to get like ten train tickets to several destinations in China.
We loved this hotel!

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade, if they have available rooms they may give you one of those!

I have often been a little critical with the Marriott hotels, as I think they have a particularly greedy approach to business / pricing (e.g. one of the last high-end chains to realize you should give complimentary bottled water in rooms and free wifi). But this one at Hangzhou, where I stayed one Saturday night on a very good corporate rate, stands out as a really high level structure.
It’s in the business district, 2 walkable kilometres north of the pretty West Lake, and a couple hundred metres from the Canal. The JW Marriott shares the entrance with the Courtyard by Marriott (which made me think for a moment that the taxi driver had gotten it wrong…). Check in was quick, smooth (despite I was early) and appreciable (I got a complimentary room type upgrade).
My “Premium” room was on the 10th floor, pretty large, with a very large and (being a corner room) full-windowed bathroom. Linear modern decor and very well equipped with amenities (e.g. an ipod stand; an in-room coffee+espresso machine; waterproof TV and remote control by the bathtub; and such details as a paper stapler).
On the other hand, if you start looking at the assembly details, you can find various small faults (e.g. a poorly wall-mounted bathroom TV, loosely fitted bathtub taps, and ‘bar’ area furniture that looks fairly cheap).
I had a nice Hawaiian massage, in a room at the spa that wasn’t terrific from an aesthetic point of view.
Two more small faults… 1) given that the coffee machine can produce espresso-sized coffees, they could make available espresso-sized cups; 2) the TV remote and TV menu are exclusively in Chinese making it impossible to find the (for me indispensable!) sleep timer function!
Overall, very good service and a high standard hotel.

Very nice clean and bright hotel for sure!  The lobby area shiny, hallways clean, carpeting looked like new, and the rooms were well-appointed!

I was very impressed by the rooms which were clean and fresh.  Nicely decorated; and, the bathroom had a large window around the tub.  There was white marble and a great corner shower.  Bathroom was big and bright, but only one sink and the tub is a bit small.  White fluffy towels and robe were wonderful.  Good quality soap and shampoo, as well as the other items.

Very good-sized office desk area and chair, a small couch and seat at the end of the bed.  A tray ceiling gave the room a bigger feel, and the doublewide bathroom doors opened up the  large bathroom.   Plenty of storage cabinets for a short stay and a good-sized closet, large combo safe, ironing board and minifrig of course.  My room was quite and the walls and glass seemed well insulated from outside noise.

The hotel, unfortunately, is not conveniently located.  Because of its location, you may be caught in traffic along the main overpass or on the crowded and polluted streets.  The airport is not located in Hangzhou, so it will take you at least one hour in light traffic.  Also, the West Lake is a distance away, so plan accordingly, especially in heavy traffic around 5pm!  The traffic can be bad and taxis are hard to catch, especially during rush hours!  Shopping is not great either around the hotel, just local shops (try the Hyatt for the best location,  wished I did).

Executive lounge is a bit small with a view of the lake in the distance. Good quality eats, some cheeses, fruits, and sweet cakes.  Nice selection of alcohol and beverages as well as fresh juices - nice, well worth it!

Breakfast was very good with a large selection of Western and Asian choices on the first floor.  Fresh juices, cook-to-order eggs with fresh grilled potatoes; and locally produced sausages, sliced meats and yogurts.  The Executive Lounge had the imported yogurts though (there is a difference - this is China).

The lobby area and front doorway/parking was a chaotic at times - feeling a bit overwhelming to a foreign guest.  People and cars were not very organized on the ground level, especially on a very busy evening.   But, the staff was so great which made my stay very comfortable indeed.

Room Tip: Higher floor.
