Yuanzheng Qizhen Hotel

We have had extended stays at this hotel twice while on business with the university. It is clean, and QUIET, with a very friendly, helpful staff. The rooms are large and well furnished. I will only add that the beds are quite beyond firm. Most mattresses in China do seem to be on the "firm" side, but these are very, very firm. That is truly the only negative thing I have to sat about this hotel, and it doesn't really count against all he positives.
The breakfast buffet is large, with lots of choices, and they have a nice restaurant on the second floor. But your food choices are fairly unlimited as there are many, many restaurants in the area.
If you like to get out run as we do, this is a perfect location. It is on campus, so there is plenty of quiet, beautiful areas to run. My husband and I ran every morning, no traffic or people. If you have stayed in any large city, you know this is a plus.
The city center is a cab ride away, but for us, staying at this hotel is worth it for the absolutely quiet rooms.

The hotel is in the heart of one of the campus' of Zhejiang University. It has good facilities and the staff are friendly. The wifi is especially good, and room has everything required by the business traveller. The only negative is that the hotel smells of cigarette smoke, but as smoking is not banned in public places in China this is just a fact of life.

A very comfortable hotel with helpful staff, especially in the restaurant. I arrived too late for a meal and the staff went to the kitchen and made a plate of food for me, which I deeply appreciated. All of this without speaking one another's language! The university site was very nice. I have stayed in other Hangzhou hotels, and find they are frantically busy with lots of traffic noise. This location requires a taxi to reach the tourist sites, which the front desk will arrange, but is quiet and calm, despite active construction across the street. Rooms are spacious, bedding very comfortable. The single draw back is very slow internet, via a computer in the room or wifi on the first two floors (but not in the restaurants). I would rate this hotel with five stars if the internet access was more convenient. i would definitely like to stay here again.

Room Tip: I enjoyed a view of the major campus buildings.

The Yuanzheng Qizhen is in the Zhejiang University campus. The university has 5 campuses in Zhejiang and they have two university hotels. The other one is on the older campus, closer to the West Lake. This is the newer university hotel. One of its advantages is its quiet and clean surroundings, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. If you have business at the university, this would be the ideal place to stay. Otherwise, you may want somewhere closer to the city or to the West Lake area. The rooms are clean, well-kept and adequately furnished for a 4-star hotel. One thing I found quite interesting is the supply of a pack of condom and even a vibrator, chargeable of course if you open the packages. I guess this is in keeping with the active student lifestyles. The rooms have spacious area and a very nice shower cubicle. I stayed with 30 other conference participants and we found out that the lower floors have poor wifi signal but strong shower water pressure while the upper floors have lower water pressure but a good wifi reception. So... pick your preference. Be aware of the small red SOS buttons in the toilet and shower cubicles. During my first shower, I thought it was for the hot water. Within a minute in the shower the room phone starts to ring followed by someone knocking on my door to check if I am alright.
Breakfast at the coffee house is not that exciting especially after 2-3 days of the same thing. Being a university hotel, room service is a bit limited. Even the reception area is on semi-shutdown state after 1030pm. All in all, a decent place to stay if you are on a business trip at Zhejiang University and prefer early nights but a bit boring if you are on holiday in Hangzhou and wants to enjoy the city nightlife and see the real Hangzhou.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the front/upper floors have a nice view of the campus.

My colleagues and I stayed here for 12 days for a conference in the hotel and on the Zhejiang University Campus. One of the unique features of this hotel are the proximity to the campus. I did not pay for this stay, so I have no idea about its value to money wise.

Positives: Welcoming staff and a few speak English. Will call a cab for you, just learn how to say Wo yao dadi and the doorman will call a cab for you. Rooms are clean very spacious and the bathrooms are very clean and a wonderful shower area. Breakfast is very good with many options.

Free wifi and use of the computer in the room. Keep in mind that some American sites are blocked. Wifi was good in our room, but from what our friends said - not in every room.

Negatives: Was not thrilled with the food at the restaurant for dinner. It was good, but not good enough for the prices. Stay away from the coffee. The campus is far from the West Lake, but taxi prices are very reasonable.

Tips: Walk around campus and then outside. There are plenty of places to eat. Across the street from the nearest main exit, there is a set of tents where they serve street food. Try it out. It is very good! Rent a bike from the hotel desk and explore!
