Dormy Inn PREMIUM Sapporo
Ranked #17 of 170 Hotels / Ryokan in Sapporo
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 9 February 2012

Dormy Inn Sapporo has all the basic amenities of a Japanese hotel, i.e. sleepwear, towels, toiletries, etc, and on top of that, it also has a mini kitchenette, equipped with a kettle and an IH heater. The common bath boasts a sauna, indoor and outdoor baths.

Being in the Tanukikoji region does has some benefits, like being close to Susukino(5 mins away) and Odori Park(10mins away)which are the two major locations for the Sapporo snow festival. Also, good food can be easily found as well. However, it is about 30mins away from the Sapporo station, which is a bit of a walk for people carrying heavy luggage. It can be accessed via subway to Susukino or Odori stations but the walk is a lot more scenic.

For those who get hungry at night, Dormy Inn also provides a free supper service from 2130-2300hrs.

If you find the pillows uncomfortable, replacements can be found in the room next to the common baths on level 2.

An added bonus is that most of the lobby staff speak some English.

stayed there over the Xmas holiday, very expensive on Christmas eve, but get back to reasonable level afterward. cannot expect a lot from these business hotel, very small room, but amazingly that they have a small stove inside the room. Did not pay for the extra 1000 yen breakfast, but seems good, with sashimi rice. also worth mentioning that they have late night ramen as snack. A bit of walking from the subway station but can go via underground shop street.

This is the 3rd different hotel I have stayed in Sapporo and the 2nd time at a Dormy Inn. We paid 6000 Yen per night for 2 people and that included breakfast buffet and also evening soba oyatsu. The breakfast was great! it had the usual Japanese staples and Western items as well as soup curry and salmon both are Sapporo classics. The location is right in between Odori and Susikino and about a 20 minute walk from JR Sapporo station. They also offer a free morning taxi to JR Sapporo which is a great added benefit. The sento is a good size and a perfect way to end the day. You could spend alot more at places like the NIkko but having stayed there before I dont see what about it justifies 3 or 4 times the price

This isn't your fancy luxury hotel. It's one of those that is affordable, is clean, effective and efficient. Plus in a great locale. 2 minutes walk from the sub-way station, and close to many eateries, shops, etc, etc. The room is small but it has all the key necessities -comfortable beds, clean bathroom, warm-seated toilet, a stove and sink area for you to cook or boil water, and a mini fridge. The hotel also throws in nice touches like a functional and clean outdoor/indoor onsen, comfortable PJs, stash of tea bags, and free Internet connection in all rooms.

I booked this inn via venere.com group for 9000 yen/night for double room. It was damn difficult to find this place although we already print out the map of the hotel. Apparently some of the key queue places were written in Japanese alphabet. To make it even difficult - apparently the word "Dormy Inn Sapporo" is only written on THEIR WELCOME MAT and apparently they are in this shopping arcade lane so it's covered by lots of shops. They have big boards but it's in Japanese - so we didn't notice it and walked the block around for like 1.5 hours before finding this place.

Anyway, the room itself is basic but sufficient. There is a distict smoke smell although I booked for non smoking room. They provide towels, bath robes, air con, sandals and surprisingly there's a small kitchen set where you can actually boils water. They also have empty fridge in case you want to keep drinks cold. The bathroom/toilet arrangement is a bit strange. The shower is on top of a sink.

About the room size, I find it adequate (as I was literally backpacking) but perhaps if you have large luggages, you will complain. There's a flat TV but mostly Japanese channels. We can hear the sound of the street from outside but it didn't bother us. Not sure whether you can leave your luggage in this hotel after check out as they have these big coin lockers. Even for umbrellas you have to buy for 600 yen (no free rental). The bed was OK, but not top quality spring bed (the pillow is from straws btw - but amazingly it's not uncomfortable, it was OK) If you're into communal bath - there is a public bath as well but we didn't try.

Surrounding it there are a lot of minimart and shops so it's not difficult to find food or souvenirs. I went home late several time (like 11 pm), it does't seem like a scary neighbourhood and feel quite safe. It is walking distance with Sapporo's tourist sights such as Akarenga (Red Brick Building), Sapporo Tower, Nijo Fish Market, etc although you might get tired if you're not in tip top condition.

Final verdict? Yes, recommended. Value for money. Just make sure you're able to find the place.... Btw, the receptionist doesn't speak very fluent English (at least not the lady that attend us) so if you got lost and try to call them, not sure whether that can help.
