Being a budget hotel I really wasn't expecting much, but my low expectations didn't prepare me enough for the stay!
The hotel is situated above a Pachinko Parlour, and the lobby reeks of cigarette smoke. Cigarette smoke, deep-fryer oil and other nasty smells invade into the room via the central ventilation system and made me quite ill (I ended up sleeping with the windows open, which was not ideal since it was -12oC outside!!). Staff only speaks Japanese. I know intermediate Japanese but found one staff member in particular very dismissive and wouldn't give me the time of day. This same staff member also demanded payment upfront but said they didn't issue receipts until check-out, which I thought highly unreasonable and argued long and hard against. In the end she reluctantly wrote me a paper invoice, and signed it "paid".
Room furnishings was not only very old (ie. if I found it in my house I would have chucked it away) but was stained and looked grotty. Floor under the bed looks like it had never seen a vacuum cleaner.
In summary: the hotel is priced like a backpackers but I have stayed in several backpackers in my life and they were all much, much better than this place! I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.
