Visited the permanent gallery and special exhibition. Both contain an expansive collection of art. I enjoy the permanent exhibits more. All description are written in Japanese. Entrance fee to both galleries are separated. Quite costly for me.

A nice combination of modern, traditional and a special exhibition made this a very enjoyable visit. I am not sure if the ukiyoe works, 100 beaties of Edo was a permanent display or a special exhibition, but it was an excellent presentation. The modern art combined paintings, ceramic and glass of mostly Japanese artists and kept my interest and the special exhibition by Czech artist Mucha, was quite expansive, and although I personally didn't like his work, it was packed with Japanese, while the rest of the museum was empty. Interesting.

Enjoyed our visit here. The art is of an excellent standard and easy to move around and laid out well. Some English graphics would help. Had a greg experience when we joined an art work shop, that they hold rarely, and were welcomed by all other participants. well worth the visit.

The regular modern art exhibit takes up one side of the building, which isn't very large. You can see all the art in that section in about an hour. There are some very beautiful abstract paintings, then glassware, then Ukiyoe paintings. The seasonal exhibit side varies. When we went, it was an Ainu arts and artifact exhibit. You have to pay double the museum price to see both the regular and seasonal exhibits, but it is worth it to extend your time there. Open 10am-5pm.

How to get there:

Take Tozai line to nishi 18-chome (Nishijuuhatchome); walk 5 min from exit 4 to Kita1,Nishi17
