“Hotel with spacious room that is near an entertainment district”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2014

Location of the hotel is not too bad. There are plenty of convenient stores which is within 5mins walk from hotel lobby. You will reach the entertainment district within 7mins walk. For shopping, you have to walk a little further from the entertainment district.

Staff manning the concierge is able to understand and speak English. When asked for direction, they are able to handle your enquiry.

Room is considered as very spacious as Japan hotel is known to be tiny. Plenty of walking space after placing 2 huge luggage on the floor. There is an air purifier in the hotel room too. Sheets & towels are clean to be used. However, I found the room temp is rather warm. The lowest temp set is 21 degree and you are unable to set it lower than this.

Breakfast served are typical Japanese buffet breakfast. Choices are quite limited if you compared to other hotel. If you are late or only having breakfast nearing the breakfast closing time, the food will not be replenished and you will have really limited choice. In another words, not much left for you to eat. However, they have a coffee machine which you can fill up using the disposable cup that can take away if you are unable to enjoy your hot coffee in the restaurant.

There is a store in the hotel where you can get the local Japanese snacks if you do not wish to carry them back from the conveniences stores.

Room Tip: Ask for higher floors to have a glimpse of the city view.

The Hotel is accessible near convenient stores and offers good authentic choice of Japanese and continental buffet breakfast. It has large spacious room which we tried has 3 large beds! And good heating. And an igloo to complement the winter atmosphere which one could seat and sip hot coffee.

When we arrived in the hotel by a taxi before noon, no bellboy came out to the gate to help us to carry the baggage although we had five big luggage. Then when we enter into the main entrance hall, there was only one receptionist in the reception area. While she was attending to other guests, we needed to wait for more than 10 minutes with luggage. If this hotel expects business tourists only who does not need any help for carrying baggage, the hotel should mention on its website. Other than those issues, we have no major issues to claim. The room was clean although a little old. The view from the room was so so.

Room Tip: Higher floor and nice view

Stayed here for 2 days as part of tour package. Was initially given a room on the third level which was supposed to be non-smoking. Requested for a change of room as the room reeked of strong cigarette smell. According to tour leader, this is not uncommon in Japan. Anyway, managed to get a room on the 13th floor which had a sharp plasma cluster-helped to purify the air. Was a lot better. The room had 2 super single bed, which was sufficient for 2 adults n 1 kid. Basic toiletries were provided, with a kettle for drinking water. Breakfast spread was adequate- consisting japanese & Western spread. The location is near entertainment district. Restaurants are aplenty n you get to taste very good ramen. A big department store in the vicinity as well. Not sure how much is the hotel rate so can't comment on the value. This hotel may deserve better rating but I am giving it an average rating for giving us the first room which should be better maintained. The windows cannot be opened so the smell in the room was evident.

Great location near parks, river and entertainment district in Sapporo. No fitness center, but right next to beautiful park along the river where you can run for miles... Also a very nice city park close by with ponds, paddle boats, streams. Location near entertainment district is great for access to so many restaurants; from ramen to Korean barbecue, seafood, etc. Great walk ability from this hotel to everything including subway.

I stayed at the Excel Tokyo for a large business meeting in Sapporo, and this was the most expensive of around the ones offered by Japan Travel Bureau. This hotel is not dreadful, but the price is not justified by the facilities and quality.

The worst aspect is the breakfast. If this is inclusive in your rate, you will need to take breakfast in what is in reality a banqueting room with large circular tables, which overflows onto the corridor outside. The facilities are inadequate for more than 200 seats (e.g. only one coffee machine and toaster), and items of food frequently run out (the rather clueless waiting staff did not seem to check this).

There are no gym facilities or the other things that make the difference for a business stay. The rooms were avarage at best. I do not expect to have to take breakfast in a corridor!

It seemed that the main business of this hotel is block bookings for large tour parties. There are many other hotels in the neighbourhood of Nakajima Koen, and I suggest that you check these out first (see another review that I have written fot one recommendation).

The lunch buffet is excellent and good value, but you do not need to be a guest to sample it.

Room Tip: There seems to be a problem with booking a non-smoking room, so they were not available for several...
