Owner description: This park commemorates the explosion of the first atomic bomb, and houses the Peace Memorial Museum and monuments related to the horrific event.

I always enjoy to learn more about the history that has shaped our world (even though I am not at all a big history buff), but there is no better way to learn than in the surroundings of where the event has occured.

The museum provides great detail on the tragedy of the atomic bomb in what I felt was a very factual way. The museum stated facts but also provided personal stories from victims and it families affected by the tragedy.

The audio guide was useful as it can be really crowded so I found that this helped when you couldn't always find space to read the descriptions on the displays. It also provided a few snippets of addition information.

The entry fee was a reasonable 200yen and the audio guide 300 yen.

We travelled to Hiroshima from Osaka on a day trip which was very doable using the Shinkansen. The street car in Hiroshima made getting to the museum simple.

I was happy we decided to make this a stop on our Japan trip.

The displays are very well presented, depicting the carnage and devastation unleashed those many years ago.

Unfortunately, the rational for unleashing this tiger on Japan of that time never gets displayed in the exhibit. Perhaps, when the portion of the museum currently closed for renovation reopens, the whole story will be revealed.

In the meantime to get "The Rest of The Story", one has to visit the "Pearl Harbour Historic Sites.

Even though only part of museum is open due to renovations it is still very worthwhile. I hired the audio guide for an extra 300Y and it was very worthwhile.
Sobering and reflective experience.

This place again does not explain all the history behind the scene. It shows how much damage the bomb created, but it lacks why this has to happen. it tried to show all the people who got suffered from the bomb, so it is definitely sad. a lot of students in the museum, but no real educational value other than "US bombed us and a lot of civilians were killed." It was ironica to see Obama's picture at the end of the museum route.
