I booked this place online (Rakuten) sight unseen. The normal listed price (rack rate?) was 17,000yen per night, I got it for 4,000 yen per night. Seemed like a good deal.
The hotel turned out to be one of the more "upscale" Love hotels I've ever seen. I'd never stayed in one before but I've lived in Japan long enough to know the telltale signs. For those who don't know: Love hotels are essentially designed for couples to "get away". The rooms often comes equipped with canopies over the beds, karaoke machines and soft lighting (as this one did) and more dubious items (which this one didn't).
That said, this room was AWESOME. Huge bed, TV with about 15-20 channels (5 of them were porn though... not that I watched any of that... : \ ), sofa (most Japanese cheap hotel rooms barely have room for a bed!)... And the bathroom... DAMN. The shower and bath were HUGE. There was a TV IN the bathtub! The bathtub could also be used as a jacuzzi and one mysterious button caused the main lights to go down and "moody" lighting to appear in and around the tub. I have NO idea what that would be for. :D
Also, the front desk and outer appearance did not give the "yeeeeshhh" feeling that American "rent by the hour" places give. Fully staffed and friendly enough. Anime characters greeting you at the front door, and an automated grand piano at the top of the stairs to the second floor.
Oh, and the room was SPOTLESS. Clean as a whistle. They even have a mini-video going on the hotel TV channel showing how they clean the rooms for nervous customers ("fumigation" would not be completely inapt).
All in all, a surprisingly great experience and a super bargain for the price. Too bad I was alone!
