When you reach the top of Mt Maya you have a great view (especially by night) and a nice ride up the hill by cablecar

The cable funicular and car are excellent with very steep inclines up the mountain.
The views at the top are stunning on a clear day.
There's a restaurant with a good small selection of meals and drinks (including beer and wine).

Walked up went past a couple of beautiful waterfalls. Got to the top though the herb gardens. The views were just amazing. So nice to have something like this right by the city. Easy to follow directions there are signs if you get off at shin-kobe that you can follow.

Mt. Rokko ist called the mountain of Kobe, but actually the much lower Mt. Maya is much more interesting. You can ride an old fashioned cable from which you can enjoy the ride through the wood and the view of Kobe. But I recommend climbing the mountain on foot. Although it is lower than Mt. Rokko, its steep paths are an interesting challenge for not so well trained climbers. A tip for art lovers: Mt. Rokko Art Festival in fall. The art objects can be enjoys all over Mt. Maya and mt. Rokko.

Leaving this review just to warn others. We headed to Kobe for one night, mainly to go up Mt Maya in the evening. Unfortunately it was a Tuesday when the cable cars don't operate (and middle of a heat wave to climbing really was not an option!). Disappointed...
