“An oasis with beautiful gardens sitting on the hillside behind.”
Reviewed 11 May 2013

Unfortunately our stay here was just for one night but it was such a pleasure. Near to railway station to take bullet train to Kyoto. Very interesting streets to explore nearby and the wonderful 'ropeway' that took you up to the top of the beautiful gardens that lay behind.. A very refreshing place to stay.

Room Tip: For a very small fee, take an upgrade to a larger room with little extras.

Dear HertfordshireKatie,
Allow me to thank you for your comments about the ANA Crowne Plaza Kobe.
The whole team is thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us.
I particularly want to acknowledge your tip, as indeed, for a reasonable fee, all our guests can enjoy either a larger room or even better the Club Lounge service.
We are looking forward to welcoming you again in Kobe!
With my best regards,

We have stayed in this hotel last two nights of our 1 week stay in Japan. Hotel is next to the Shinkansen station which was very convenient for us. We got the room on the 29th floor and the view was spectacular, it was definitely the best part of the room. Room itself was spacious with very comfortable bed, but bathroom was outdated with plastic handheld shower. It was OK, everything was working but taking into consideration the price (double what we paid everywhere else) you expect much better quality. This was the most expensive and the poorest quality place we have stayed during our holidays. Moreover during the last screening of the room we have found that places which you can not seen (for example behind the bedside table) were very dirty, no one was cleaning it for the very long time.

Room Tip: 29th floor offers great views over Kobe

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback.

We are very happy that you enjoyed our hotel’s location close to the station and the room size.

At the same time, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced during your stay regarding the poorly cleaned-up room. It is not acceptable and as you rightly point out, cleanliness must be guaranteed regardless of room types. We have addressed this issue with house-keeping staff and management with a review of our cleaning process.

Once again, thank you very much for your valuable comments that allows us to become better at delighting our guests and we are looking forward to welcoming you back in Kobe.

Yours sincerely,

Jean-Raphael Felus,
General Manager

We stumbled into the skybar by chance. We had planned to take the ropeway to Mt Maya for a sunset and night view but it was late and we had stopped at shin Kobe to try to go to the Herb Garden instead but it was closed. The staff noticed that we were quite lost trying to find our way and very kindly explained how to get back to sennomiya station to get back to kyoto. But i notice there was a bar at the top level and suggested going there instead for the view of city.

It was a great find.the bar tender was friendly and we had great drinks and cheese platter with a view to boot. The bar tender even took me into the gents where the view from the gents had the best view of the city. After some drinks and feeling a bit tipsy, we took the glass lift up and down again because the views were so lovely!!!

Room Tip: the skybar is a must for those who love a good drink and a view to boot

We stayed here for 5 nights, while supporting a New Zealand Womens Football team at the Worl Cup. The location was great, The lift went down to the subway and there was a covered walkway to the train station. Supermarket under the Hotel and lovely restuarants and shops on the three lower floors. The staff were very helpful, those that spoke english anyway.

We stayed here recently and I have to say we were disappointed overall. We arrived late at night and on entering our room which was a king bed room, we found the following:
The room lacked character in that it was very plain, with a 6 foot divider in the bedroom part which hid a brown ugly sink that was obviously very fashionable in the 60's. It was also very low and we struggled to use it. The bathroom was the worst hotel bathroom I had ever seen. Again very old fittings and the shower was really just a hand held plastic shower head that had been attached to the wall.
The bed was low and lumpy. It really was not nice. I have stayed at 2 and 3 star hotels that were way better.
The worst part was the air conditioner or the lack of it. We hardly slept as the room was so hot. We spoke to the front desk in the morning and was told that the air con was in fact a heating system and was controlled centrally. They suggested opening the emergency window.
We were really unhappy.
We asked about a better room and eventually we were shown two rooms on the 31st floor. These were MUCH better. The basin was in the bathroom and the fittings although not great were more modern. The bed was newer and higher and the room had AIR-CON with individual controls.
Please be aware that this hotel clearly has a range of standards in terms of their rooms.
We ended up having to pay much more in order to be able to sleep in comfort at night.

I think this is poor show by the hotel as you pay for a room and expect to be able to sleep either in warmth or in coolness. This is not a one star hotel its a world renowned hotel.

We did upgrade and only received 'I'm sorry' from the receptionist.

It really was not good enough, just because the hotel doesn't have a decent air con in ALL rooms we either had to sleep in a hot room (with an emergency window open) or upgrade.

Our new room meant we could use the executive lounge, which had a lovely view. The staff were nice and friendly. I do feel that more variety of food could of been offered as it did tend to be for the Japanese taste which is fine since we were in Japan but on the same token it is a 'western hotel' and could of offered a little more for breakfast.

The hotel was in a good location, and had lovely views and overall the staff were very helpful and polite.

I do think though that the lack of air con and décor should be highlighted in the different rooms that are offered so at least you know what you are getting. The photos on the website don't reflect the poor bathrooms.

We've stayed in a number of hotels in Japan and will continue to do so in the future. I doubt though that we will return to this hotel and will probably avoid the Crowne Plaza chain in future, purely down to the way that rooms are not advertised as they should be and that we had to pay a lot more money ourselves in order to be comfortable. They do have notices everywhere saying how our comfort is their priority type of thing but we were the ones who had to change the circumstances and they were happy to take our money.

Room Tip: Check the quality of your room, which floor etc..

Coming back from business in himeji, we stay 1 night at this hotel before going back to Tokyo.
Room are perfect, while location is so so close to shin Kobe.
It was one day trip and we forgot to packed our blackberry charger. We asked house keeping and they tried very very hard to find phone charger for us to use that night.

That's what I called super service. Thank you guys. I'm Definitely a returned customer..

The hotel is located adjacent to the Shin-Kobe station and the view from the hotel is astonishing. If you are lucky to get a room on a higher floor, you will be able to see the harbor and the city centre. The rooms are spacious considering other hotels in Japan. The staff are very friendly and are always willing to assist. The only drawback that I found was that the hotel did not have air-con facility at night. I found the temperature in the room quite warm and asked for the air-con to be switched on but all they could do was to switch off the heater, which did not solve the problem. The hotel has a good swimming pool, gym and Jacuzzi but these facilities are chargeable. Would surely stay again at ANA Crowne Plaza Kobe during my next visit.

Room Tip: Higher floors have a great view
