“Decent business hotel”
Reviewed 15 February 2012

We stayed here for 3 nights as my brother was getting married near the Kobe airport.

Reasonable price but it was more expensive than usual as it was a public holiday on one of the days.

Portliner is 5 minutes walk away and it only takes 9 minutes to Sannomiya for 240 yen. Night time is like a ghosttown around here so you can go out in Sannomiya as last train is midnight.

There is a supermarket close by so you can buy everything you need there.

Room was okay, not dirty, not immaculately clean. Pretty small room. Aircon was hard to adjust, room got very dry or you got very cold. We opted for no bed making the whole 3 days and they hang a bag on your door know with change of towels/pajamas/coffee/tea etc.

Breakfast isn't really worth paying for, opt for the supermarket(which is open til 10pm)

Dear Ai-Syd

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on TripAdvisor following your 3 nights at Ariston Hotel Kobe. Thank you for recognising our good things such as friendliness of our staff, room size, cleanliness.

As far as the bed making, I am sorry you experienced a warm and cold room and in addition to provide you open the emergency hatch window upon guest requests to allow fresh cool air into your room. We are working on plans with our owner to rectify this situation as this in 2017 having only heat or air conditioning available is no longer acceptable for an International Hotel.

While the Hotel does offer Italian Food and Beverage outlets, I understand that when one stays for 3 nights you also want to experience some local varieties and thus your recommendation to take Port Liner Minatojima Station to Sannomiya Station(Kobe's Restaurant and entertainment district) is truly a great suggestion. If you are out late the return taxi will cost no more than 2000 JPY and as such quite reasonable.

Again thank you for taking the time to post your review and I hope you will soon return to Kobe and once again stay with us at Ariston Hotel Kobe.

It's an ok hotel, pretty cheap, but good location for convention or if you have friends on the island (as i had). Downsides are a little small, many rooms have smoking smell, no breakfast, but it's close to many convenience stores, and the train station is just next by. You can also use the ferry from Kansai airport to get there, which is good. Overall ok if for short stay.

I would strongly advice anyone who wants to stay here to choose a different accomodation.

The hotel is located on the Port island which is a residential area with a large conference centre and it is like a ghost city after 7PM.
You are better of choosing a hotel on the mainland as Kobe has got a lively night life. There is a really fast train from the mainland to the island, in case you are attending a conference on the island.

The hotel building is old, stinking and dirty with different strains of bacterias breeding in its rooms undisturbed. I myself picked up an
infection due to the non-disinfected bide/toilet.

This is quite surprising considering that this place is in Japan.

No gym, no room service. One positive aspect however is that there is
a washingmachine so you can wash your clothes for a few Yens.

The breakfast choice is very limited. I have ended up eating the same
few things every morning.

Lunch and dinner are quite basic too

Luckily there are other restaurants in the Portopia hotel that serve good food.

The maid turns off the aircond once you leave the room in the morning. This leaves the room hot for the evening. Since the aircond is quite weak if you turn the aircond on at say 9PM the room will surely get cool by 2AM in the morning.
