We stayed here for one night to enjoy the Ryokan experience; and how fabulous it was too! It is located a good 10-minute stroll up the way from Kyoto Railway Station, and was relatively easy to find. The originality of the structure was something to be admired, as was the greeting we received. Our room was excellent, the layout - as anticipated, and the beds were a delight!
The bathing area, both for showers (cleaning) and bathing (for relaxing, not cleaning!) were most excellently done. It must have taken some effort to mix the old style with all the latest mod cons, and it worked a treat! There were several 'shower' rooms dotted about the Ryokan, and the same for toilets too - which tend to be more functional than as a place to 'relax' - if you get my western drift!
We enjoyed dinner in-house, and this was as Japanese as it gets! It was a superb mix of traditional Kyoto fare, and was beautifully presented by a fabulous chef, assisted by a most-attentitive staff...including, as we later discovered, the Proprietor - dressed and serving as a humble waiter, a mult-generation descendant of the original owner. Once we got the beer and sake flowing, we all had a lovely evening.
Would I stay at this Ryokan again?
