Well-situated near several of the 200 lines but far enough out of the center to be somewhat affordable. The place itself is clean, well-run, serves a nice Japanese breakfast and has a comfortable small onsen for guests. All to be recommended.

It's a thoroughly modernized older building, so the interior is a bit bland, but everything works well and it's a great place to stay!

This Ryokan is super clean and cute with very friendly staff. Our room was very spacious and felt very homey and traditional as you'd expect. However, be mindful that when you book a ryokan, you get a ryokan, along with the slightly uncomfortable futon beds. It was a bit of a fun novelty at first, but it was a bit of rough going on the back after a couple of nights (especially after a full day of sight seeing around the city). The room has heating but most of the areas of the hotel outside the room were lightly heated, which was ok for us coming from a tropical country. Our room came with a private bath, which I learned to appreciate more after seeing other patrons timidly sneaking out of their rooms to use the public bath facilities.
Inside our room we had loads of space, and the room could easily sleep 6-7 people comfortably and the wifi is free of course, if not a bit sketchy, which brings me to my biggest complaint of all. The walls between rooms are very, very, very thin. We could here every single word of the ongoing conversation of the family next door until well into the night. We could here the father happily playing with the child till 11:30 at night, and the coughs and sniffles of the same child all night a couple of days later. Unfortunately for them, they could also here our symphony of snoring, which no doubt, would have provided a less than restful sleep for the occupants of the room next door. Also, this Ryokan is right across the Kyoto University Medical Hospital and Its a little remote from any transportation especially JR or subways. Not a lot of stuff around. Basically have to walk 5-10 minutes to find anything interesting, which wasn't a problem for us as we were enjoying the weather.

Room Tip: Get the private bath....you'll thank yourself later!

This ryokan is amazing. About 5 minutes walk from the bus (the 206 goes to Kyoto station) and Metro stations. Loved my room (212) with private bathroom. You sleep on the floor on a comfy futon with a soft puffy duvet. Complimentary dressing gowns are provided, plus there's green tea and hit water in a flask. A very considerate team are looking after this establishment. The concierge speaks fair English and is very helpful re directions etc. Bear in mind the location of the inn is about 20 mins by bus from Kyoto station so if you want the centre if town then this place isn't for you.

Room Tip: Take the 212 bus from Kyoto station, at the stand marked D2 - NB there are two 206 busses so don't mix them up. Costs 220Y. Avoid taxis anywhere in Japan. Same trip fist me 2000Y!

The hotel and staff were great. Our room was very spacious and felt very homey and traditional... which is why the bad marks on room comfort. It is by no means the fault of the hotel: when you book a ryokan, you get a ryokan, along with the futon beds. Between the futon beds (which take some getting used to) and the thin window blinds that let lights from the stores across the street shine through, we didn't have the best night sleep. Again, this is mostly on us and not the hotel, but we felt it should be mentioned. However, if you want to relax, spend the extra money to get a private bathroom, it is especially worth it after a long, rainy day of sightseeing in Kyoto. Also, the tea set in the room was great to come home to, they provide green tea and traditional snacks every night.

Room Tip: Spend extra on the private bathroom

Spacious room.
Superb traditional Japanese breakfast served in authentic surroundings by attentive staff.
Beautiful garden at side.
Hosts very attentive to us, and (rather touchingly) gave us a lovely farewell kerb-side when we boarded our cab.
Not cheap accommodation, but worth it.
Easy transportation to city centre (good buses).

Problem is, I think I really like the comforts of a western-style bed, and found the futon heavy-going after two nights. But that's personal preference.

I didn't use the Onsen, but other family members did, and gave favourable reports.
