“Great little budget gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 January 2013

A little gem for budget travellers, well worth the money!
You have your own bathroom, your own balcony, free internet (LAN), a fridge and a decent-sized bed. The wooden structure was rather squeaky, so I went Japanese style and put the mattress on the floor.

As stated on their website, room cleaning only every 3 days, including clean towels. You can have them more often, at a charge.
A small free breakfast is included.
The community room (open from 7AM – 11PM) has free coffee, water and a microwave.
And: 2 great massage chairs. I got addicted to these!
Oh, but no elevators and steps at the entrance as well.

The neighbourhood is fantastic! Just a stroll from some great temples and a lovely, quiet feel to it. Some nice-looking restaurants and a MacDonalds close by. If you exit the hotel, walk straight on to the Jingu michi and then turn right, you’ll find the cutest little restaurant, apparently run by women, just past the stone wall on the right. Very cheap and very tasty.

Like most "business hotels" in Japan, it's a very basic experience-- no elevator, small room, hard beds-- but the staff is mostly helpful, the hotel is very clean, and MOST IMPORTANTLY this is a STEAL for the neighborhood. On the fringe of Gion, an easy walk to some of the greatest temples and the main strip of restaurants in downtown, much quieter / more pleasant than the Kyoto station area. Hotel also has some great touches-- like the free massage chairs-- which make it an easy 4 star review.

Don't stay here if you're looking for super comfort. But don't miss this if you're on a budget but are looking for more than a hostel or capsule hotel.

It might be a little hard to find, but it was perfect for our short stay in Kyoto. The staff were very friendly and the hotel was clean. The room was a nice size and very well kept and organized. There is a community room that offers WiFi (FREE), free massage chairs, water, tea, coffee. There's also a bike rental available for a small fee. I definitely recommend the bike rental option! The street is quiet and the hotel is in a great location for parks, shrines and shops. Kyoto is a beautiful city and there's so much to explore!

Room was small, as most are in Japan, but it was comfortable and clean. Hotel is located in a quiet area close to busier areas and subway station, easy to reach Kyoto station by subway. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Bed was good. Laundry service is provided. Free wi-fi.

We stayed at the E & T for four nights and loved it. It's a great basic hotel--clean, convenient, and in a green, residential area. The staff was very friendly and they have a lot of information about sightseeing and getting around in Kyoto. Highly recommended but book early!

It's in a very quiet street very close to the main shrines and temples in the city. Also not far from the philosopher's path. I do recommend this place, I'd stay there if I went back to Kyoto. Mainly for the location. What you get is very basic for what your pay, but hotels in Japan are very expensive, so this one is probably a good deal. It's at the level of an Ibis hotel. The personnel is polite, nice and helpful, as everywhere in Japan.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2012

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights during a very hot August in Kyoto. The welcome was lovely - even including fanning us as we were so hot from carrying our bags from the metro! Our room was very pleasant and practical. Comfy beds, good air-con and enough room to unpack. The extras were great: free use of laundry (and a balcony in your room to dry clothes), free tea and coffee and a pleasant communal space for breakfast (which we bought in local convenience stores), bike rental (and kyoto is great for cycling) and massage chairs. The hotel was in a nice quiet location but really close to the centre, certainly within walking distance, but minutes from a metro anyway. The staff were great, even for Japan, where everyone is very polite and friendly anyway. This was my favourite hotel of my trip and great value for money - it is not 5 star or luxurious if that is what you are looking for, but for this class you couldn't ask for more.
