This is an excellent Ryokan choice in central Kyoto north of the Train Station.

We received exceptional service, traveller advice and enjoyed particular friendliness from the staff at this Ryokan. Our visit coincided with Christmas and the Ryokan management made for a very thoughtful and special Christmas eve for all guests with entertainment, food and drink.

The room and sleeping conditions were very comfortable. The bathroom was cramped, but very clean and functional. Breakfast (for an extra charge) was delicious and served promptly in the morning. It is not a buffet breakfast, rather an order and pay-in-advance (night-before) system.

Location worked very well for us. It is perhaps a 15 minute walk to Kyoto Station/Business precinct and there are several local restaurants and shops nearby. We found a very nice Izakaya for dinner within a 5 minute walk of the Ryokan.

In summary, we enjoyed our stay and would happily stay at this Ryokan again.

We stayed at this hotel for 6 nights when we went to Kyoto end last year. It was the priciest hotel (~USD200) that we stayed in on our entire trip AND the smallest room we stayed in (we got the standard room).

I traveled with my husband and 2 children and were given a small room with 3 futons. That's fine, but on alternate nights, we have to put our own sheets on our futon (but the rest of the night, the sheets have already been put on, we just needed to lay them out), I don't know why; on a long day after all the sightseeing, this is quite a pain.

And we were supposed to get some long stay benefit which was on their website (and I didn't know until I came home), e.g. free bicycle rental, free tour; but we were not offered.

Luckily, there are some good points too :
1) The place is walking distant to Kyoto station, Gojo Station (10~15mins walk), and a bus stop (2 mins walk), so it's quite convenient as a base to explore Kyoto.
2) There's a Lawson's very near by, which was where we bought our daily breakfast.
3) The place is very clean (but I think it's quite difficult to find a Japanese hotel which is not clean).
4) Staff are quite knowledgeable in the transport system, so they were able to tell us what bus/train to take to where we wanted to go.
5) Staff English was quite good.

The Ryokan is at a quiet neighbourhood, where lots of prayers shops are located.

Room tip: Maybe the Western Rooms will be bigger?

Very nice and very helpfull staff, clean and good for that price ryokan. Wifi is available only at the reception. The only problem is that it is about 15-20 min walk from the train station and the busses bringing you close to the ryokan stops at 10pm.

P.S. About 5 min walk from the ryokan we've tried the best udon we've ever eaten in Japan - terrible location and very very simple but udon was delicious - ask the staff

Really enjoyed my 4 nights stay in this ryokan.

Location: 10-15 minutes walk from kyoto station. Quite difficult to locate the ryokan for first timer ps though but this is not a problem as Japanese are known to be helpful so you can ask any pedestrians.

Room: we chose to stay in traditional room and it was very spacious, clean and authentic Japanese room. The only complaints the room is not soundproof so you can hear your neighbor's conversation very clearly.

Service: friendly and efficient... Very awesome!

Breakfast: pls opt for the Japanese breakfast set... It's good!!!

This is the second time that I have stayed here. In 2010, I stayed in a western room and this time I had a Japanese style room.
Toko is so attentive every day and always helpful. Breakfast makes you feel like you are at home. Everyday we were welcomed back with a general interest in what we had done without being intrusive.
The decor is traditional and everything clean. Their suggestions of things today were wonderful.
Location is good with the bus around 2 minutes walk away. They suggested somw great restaurants as well.
I would stay again when I return to Kyoto next time!
