My wife and me lived there for 3 nights. The room and common areas were clean and traditional look, the staff is very polite and helpful. Room equipment is quite new, especially the bath room and toilet is excellent. However, the location is little far away from Kyoto station, around 15 minutes walking distance. Anyway, it is an excellent living place when you travelling in Kyoto.

The staff was really helpful and informative. The also have quite a lot of information ready for tourists to learn about the city and their best restaurants. Ask for the Michelin star restaurant guide they have done. Place is nice and clean.

While Sakura wasnt our first choice, we are glad we chose it.

We got the room with tatami mats and we slept like babes. The bathroom was small but it was something we got used to.

The staff was friendlt esp Toko. She gave us tips on japanese cooking.

Sakura had activities organized for guests like sake drinking, ikebana. Too bad we didnt have time to join.

Only negative was that we were not informed that we could have requested for a router to have internet access in the rm.

Looking forward to going back.

this hotel located in a quiet valley, that means no car noise would bother your rest, in the other hands, it may take u some time to walk to the nearest bus station and subway station. if u visit Kyoto for cultural experience, this hotel could be an ideal choice.

It is a simple ryokan with good hospitality. The decoration was nice with small garden on the 1st floor. Unfortunately we got a room at the 3rd floor which view was blocked. The staffs speak English fluently.
The japanese style breakfast was just average (with the same menu everyday) and you have to pay additional charge about 8$ for it.
You can reach this ryokan by bus (it's 3 bus stop only). Many reviews said that it's 15-20 minutes walking, but considering our heavy luggage, we prefer to take a bus, we buy day-pass bus ticket anyway to go around Kyoto.
The room was clean and spacious enough for japanese standard, but the ceiling was too low. If you are tall (like my husband, who is 181 cm) you will easily bump to the door frame and you'll have to bow a little bit inside the room. It's really inconvenient for him. The bathroom was clean enough but the toilet was just the standard one (not the sophisticated toilet we usually found throughout Japan), and it was difficult to flush any used toilet tissue (like we usually do in Japan).
For us, sleeping in a futton is not a really special thing (it's only a thin mattress covered with a piece of cloth then we sleep on it covered with thick blanket).
For this kind of quality, we think that this ryokan was overpriced. Especially because they require you to stay for minimum of 2 nights.
We're not going back to stay here.

Room Tip: choose room with garden view

We stayed 2 nights at Sakura after 2 nights at the Ibis Kyoto station, and were really looking forward to our stay in a Japanese style room.
We were quite disappointed. We were expecting something much smaller and intimate; instead, there are a lot of rooms, which makes the whole location more like an hotel.
Then the room: it's quite spacious, by Japanese standards, at least 15 sqm, but very bad organized. Don't understand how they could install such a tiny bathroom with the space available, absolutely no rooms for clothes so you have to keep everything in your travel bag, not really a problem if you stay 2 nights only, but still bothering. I think there's only a small cupboards where you can hang 2 shirts max.
Japanese bedding are quite convenient as you store them during the day, which enhance my previous point; bathroom could have been much bigger. Quality of the bathroom was also very poor, all plastic, with shower hose fitted on the sink directly (something I only saw in the cheapest hotels). no wifi in rooms so inconvenient to check restaurants... on the web, no international channels on TV. our room was quite dark and without any nice Japanese decoration/paint
Staff was friendly, booked taxis for us when needed, but not really helpful when we asked for sushi restaurant suggestions, and didn't even try to book for us (2 people only).

Location is nice, very quiet area. The bus network is very easy to use in Kyoto, and walking/cycling the city is great. Kyoto station is 15 min walking, and there are some bus stops close from the hotel. Some nice temples right by it as well.

overall it was OK for 2 nights but it's not what you expect when you pay more than 120 eur /night. next time i'd rather stay in the Ibis, cheaper with better service.

From the moment we checked in we appreciated the simple elegance and relaxed feel of this place. On arrival we were asked to take a seat and brought tea to enjoy as forms were filled out and payment was made. We stayed in a garden room, a good size tatami mat room with an entry hall, a small 'dressing' room and standard Japanese 'capsule' bathroom. Having an outlook over a small but pleasant garden was really lovely and rare in urban Japan. We opted to have the western style breakfast which was perfectly adequate to get you on your way in the morning-there aren't many other options nearby. There is wifi in the common areas, but you can also borrow a router to have it in your room, which worked really well for us. We also used the laundry facilities which was a hassle free and relatively quick process. The area is very quiet without many eating options close by, but there are plenty in the station area, about a 10-15 minute walk away. It's a fair walk to the central part of Kyoto, but the buses and metro are pretty easy to use. This is a lovely relaxed way to experience Japanese style accommodation, and a good base for exploring Kyoto.
