Too many temples to visit and we selected to visit this place where lots of people around & pray. It was very unfortunate that the entry was closed when we reached.

With all the temples in Kyoto, it may be easy for a western traveler to get fatigue. And, while much less famous than other temples, visiting Kennin-ji was my favorite and most unforgetible moment of the trip. Its Zen gardens, outstanding screen paintings, and contemporary art combined to create a moving experience. We found ourselves spending two hours here and reluctant to leave

Some nice features to see here, rock and zen gardens, twin dragon mural on the ceiling - worth a stop by.

Very impressive old temple with lots of great art around. Beautifully manicured gardens abound. Be sure to get one of the stamps (hand drawn).

We didn't intend to visit Kennin-Ji temple as we were on a tight schedule but on our wanders through Gion we decided to take a look whilst passing as we had managed to shake our jet lag off quicker than expected and headed out of our hotel an hour earlier than planned. I'm so glad we did as I think this was my favourite temple we visited throughout our 10 days in Japan.
It may have gone in it's favour that it had only just opened and the crowds had not yet descended upon it but it was just a peaceful place to wander. I could actually enjoy it without knocking shoulders every second with another eager tourist wanting to get a better look or shot.
The twin dragons were mesmerising and the gardens relaxing and calming, I'm so glad we didn't miss this place.
