Great Value for Money

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 15 Dec 2019via mobile
We stayed at Kelio Prelia for 4 nights and we highly recommend it, from Kyoto station its around a 15-20 minute walk or you can ride the local train (120yen) and get off at Gojo station from there its less than 5 minutes walk, alternatively take bus no.17 which stops close by and costs 230 yen. Taxi’s and Uber are expensive so i wouldn’t bother. Friendly reception staff spoke basic english and check in was a breeze.

Room was a touch small but okay as it was super clean with nice linen, full body jet shower was amazing! Hotel features a Mens and Women’s Onsen which was a nice touch. We loved the buffet breakfast which was a mix of western and traditional Japanese fare, smoothies/juices and hot local roasted coffee/teas. Its normally 2200 yen on its own if you come in off the street so it makes the stay here very good value for money.

Location wise its really good, J cycles (bicycle hire) is 2 streets away with Family mart just outside. Many other good eating options also close by, Temples within walking distance also.

We would definitely stay here again, and recommend it to anyone wanting a clean, modern hotel with good buffet breakfast.

Location is about 15 minutes walk from Kyoto station and about 10 minutes walk from the main shopping district. Restaurants and bars are about 5-10minutes away. Room was small but it had everything we needed. Very clean and new. We had paid for breakfast but I could not find anything that particularly appealed apart from fruit. It was unusual breakfast fare, pizza, chicken vegetable pasta, curry and rice, salad bar etc. There were some croissants but they were a bit stodgy. The other guests were very international and seemed to enjoy it, so I accept that it was just my palate that didn't fancy those items.
There were public male and female baths available but we never got chance to use them. Overall would definitely recommend the hotel but would have brekkie elsewhere.

The hotel is modern and immaculately clean. The room I had was was just right in size and quite modern- a double bed, recessed lighting, USB plugs next to your bed, a little side couch, desk, pajamas everyday, slippers, and a full on body jet shower! Housekeeping cleaned everyday and if you needed an iron, it was stationed near the elevators. There was an onsen and laundry on the premises and you could check it out from your TV if it was occupied.

As for the breakfast, it is a buffet but it was not to my liking. It was located at the attached Italian restaurant. It was there twist of a western breakfast but it was more like an abundance of carbs, not that great “breakfast” pizza, pasta, a lunch dish, prosciutto, and a salad bar. I don’t really want to eat a salad during breakfast!

As for location, it is a distance from tourist sites. You do have to walk to the subway stations or the bus in order to get to the places. I underestimated the distances on the map. If you do take your luggage from Kyoto Station on the train, be ready to lug it up the stair; no elevators...

Our stay was perfect. Don't even think twice if considering this hotel. Just book it!

Some highlights:
Newly built
Immaculately clean, well-designed bathroom
Air purifier/humidifier in the room
Very accessible (2 bus stops and a subway station within 2 blocks, plus Kyoto Station is only 1 station away)
On-site onsen for guests
Self-service and full-service laundry
TV gives you info on status of laundry/onsen (in use/crowded/etc.)
Worth so much more than they charge

We will definitely be back and highly recommend this hotel to all our friends and family.

Room tip: Some rooms on the lower floors have windows that only look out on a wall

This hotel was beautiful and immaculate! Bigger than lots of hotels in Tokyo/Osaka. Still small but huge so comfy bed! Air con was fabulous and block out curtains. Super quiet too - Feel like no one else was staying on our floor. So so clean, modern bathrooms really lovely! Staff were super friendly. Pretty good locations for trains and walking distance to Kyoto Tower/Kyoto station. Would highly recommend!
