We wanted a Ryokan experience but on a budget. This exceeded our expectations because most of the photos were very touristy/tacky/backpacker with cheesy dress ups going on. Actually, this is a really well run place where you get the proper Japanese floor futon (be sure to ask for it) and quaint Ryokan rooms. Its clean and very welcoming, has a nice common room for relaxing and reading after a day on your feet at the temples. They keep luggage for you and have good WiFi and all your necessities. Breakfast was in a nearby building with very authentic Japanese food and surroundings. Highly recommended - a real highlight of our trip across Japan.

The Nagomi Ryokan Yuu is a Machiya, a Japanese traditional guesthouse. I stayed for 5 nights, only wishing they were 50, given the kindness, attention and warm welcome I was given. The place is very clean and very quite, so I was able to sleep comfortably every single night.
The Japanese breakfast was delicious and incredibly light. Also, they rent bikes at a very affordable price per day, which allows you to see Kyoto in a completely different way.
The whole staff speaks English and are always available to help, from directions to suggestions. The room and bathroom are very clean and they gave to the back yard fountain, which was very relaxing.
When I booked my stay, the online prices were incorrect and higher than what was expected so they immediately informed me of this and reduced the price.
The room may feel a bit small if you are disorganized, but once I packed everything neatly, I didn't feel it any more.

I don't tend to like to repeat destinations, but from the way I felt at home here, I will most surely return ( I just don't know when).

We stayed three nights here on our Japan trip, And I have to say it was the best stay we had so far. The japanese breakfest they offer was worth its money, we never needed lunch! :)

What you'll get:
- Friendly Staff that speaks excellent English / the best so far on our tour
- Wifi in all rooms of the hotel for free. without any blabla
- You'll stay in a MACHYA. That's an old Town Building made of different kinds of wood and THIN WALLS. If you wan't authentic rooms, you'll get them. Don't cry about it ;)
- Air Condition in your sleeping room
- A western bathroom.
- A (common) washing machine. for 100yen you can dry your stuff!
- You are very close to the Goyo Subway station, Kyoto station is within walking distance. All attractions we visited were within 30min - even Inari Fukakusa in the south.

Some personal thoughts from my side regarding the bad comments from other guests:

If you can't sleep on an AUTHENTIC mattress on the floor and hate being waken by the sun, you are at the wrong place.
If you have a light sleep, don't stay at a Machya.
If small rooms are an issue for you (as I read mostly from Americans or Australians) you have to pay more in this country. The price/m² is higher in this country, 1m40 beds are rare here even for 3* accomodations.

Room Tip: Y103 is fine!

We stayed in a double room but it was very, very small. Our futons nearly covered the entire floor space and there was no shelf for our bags or anything. There were frosted windows to the hallway where the lighting was very bright so we had difficulty getting to sleep. The bathrooms are shared but they were clean although the toilet didn't smell great. There were also coin laundry facilities but the dryer didn't do an adequate job. There were complimentary towels, ukata (Japanese bath robe), mugicha (barley tea), access to a fridge and free wifi. The inn is in a central location and close to the Kyoto train station, so it was very convenient.

Room Tip: Not wheelchair accessible. Very small rooms.

I stayed at this property back in 2010 (I'm a little late writing a review) and couldn't have been happier to find this gem! The staff are incredibly helpful and knowledgable and truly love visitors. The rooms are quite small and are more like rooms in a house but the experience is incredibly worthwhile. Breakfast (Japanese or American) is served each morning next door in a charming common dining room and is delicious!

The Ryokan is located within walking distance of Kyoto's main transportation hub and if you weren't already impressed by the sheer volume of temples and attractions in and around tokyo, you will find the charming side streets, restaurants and shops near Nagomi Ryokan Yu incredibly appealing.

I feel so lucky to have stayed in such a place!

It's a Japanese style hotel (ryokan). Our stay in this hotel was amazing. Friendly staff, clean bedrooms (very small but it is normal in Japan), good japanese breakfast... Don't forget to do the tea ceremony or wear the tradicional kimono!! Good experience!!

Room Tip: I can't add any tip

We were 6 friends staying for one night in Kyoto. This house located about 10 minutes walk from the Kyoto station. It combines with 2 bedrooms (one with 4 mattresses and another one has twin beds). We chose the house included the traditional breakfast. The main living room has the common table that has a thick blanket with a heater underneath..but it didnt smell good inside there so dont poke your nose in!

The (Japanese) toilet is separated with the bathroom. Nice and clean. Upstairs is for only the bedrooms (the blankets are very thick). The breakfast was served at another house (across from the reception, our house was one small block away).

They also have bicycle for rent, if not enough or ran out one, you can walk across the main street to a bigger bike rental shop.

I'm not sure if it gave the real Ryokan feeling but I would go back there and recommend it to other friends
