“Great Hotel, excellent Onsen!”
Reviewed 27 January 2014

We stayed at Dormy Inn for 3 nights and were very impressed with the hotel's offerings. The rooms are reasonably sized (by Japan standards), the bathroom a good size and all in-room amenities provided - even pants and a top for wearing around the hotel.

What made this hotel a stand-out was the Onsen on the 9th floor - it was one of the best we visited during our time in Japan. It had plenty of bathing alcoves, a sauna (complete with TV), an indoor hot pool, and outdoor hot pool and single person tub. There was also a chilled pool inside. All the amenities were provided including body wash, shampoo etc, as well as razors, shaving cream and combs.

There was also a free to use washing machine and paid dryer in the bathroom.

The free ramen noodles at night were also great! We didn't have breakfast or dinner in the hotel so can't comment. The hotel is just 5 minutes away from Kyoto station so very easy to get to with suitcases in tow.

Next time we are in Japan I'd happily stay at another Dormy Inn after our experience here.

ps: I managed to sneak a few photos of the Onsen early one morning when there was no one else in there.

The Dormy Inn Premium Kyoto Ekimae is a beauty in Kyoto. Close to the Central Rail Station, the hotel is good for a quick in and out trip of Kyoto. The staff is very well trained and keep the place absolutely spick and span. The best feature of this hotel is the 9th floor hot springs, hot bath and sauna. Please learn etiquette before you visit these places. Another feature is the supply of free ramen noodles every night on the first floor. You can have as many as you want and they are really great. The internet access was free and fairly fast. The breakfast did have some western choices but predominantly Japanese. If you are tired of Japanese food, you could go to the Starbucks near by. The bullet trains on either direction are very convenient if you want to make a quick getaway.

We stayed here a few nights. Location is great, right next to the train station and in the city centre, you can walk to lots of attractions. Spa was great, rooftop jacuzzis. Room was lovely too, great design, a bit small, but that's just normal in Japan. Staff was nice and polite. We didn't eat in the hotel, rather tried local restaurants in town. Recommend it!

Unbelievable value for the price. You not only get a clean room with ample space in a location that is extremely close to Kyoto station but the hotel comes with free ramen (after 9pm) which was delicious and also an excellent hot springs bath on the 9th floor.

It's hard to imagine staying anywhere else in Kyoto at this price and these benefits. We'll definitely be back next time we are in Kyoto.

If you look for a hotel with a large room for a good price, this is not the hotel you should choose. But otherwise, it is a great hotel. Especially, if you like to experience some Japanese culture. The hotel offers free noodle soup for dinner, free entry to the onsen on the top deck and provides every day a fresh Japanese dress. The employees are very friendly. They don't speak English that good, but in the end, after 2-3 tries, they've always understood me. The rooms are small, but have everything you need (air condition, fridge, shower gel, hair dryer, ... ) and they are very clean. The location is great, too. It's just a view meters away from the closest side entrance of the Kyoto station. A grocery store is also right next to the hotel and 2-3 minutes away, you can find a bike rental.

You can spend a fortune for hotels in Kyoto, I know I have been a few times. This worked out well for a very reasonable price. Great checkin staff and rooms very comfortable and clean. If you choose this type of hotel get use to small rooms but all very clean well equipped and so much better than the more expensive alternatives that quite often disappoint and sometimes are not in such good locations as this one. Great free Onsen on the top floor. We had both single and twin rooms booked and both were great. Free noodles in the restaurant in the evening was a nice touch -

Room Tip: A tip for all of these Business Budget hotels that are all over Japan is that the rooms are small an...

Stayed there for three nights in Oct 2013. The location was excellent as it was just 5 mins walk from kyoto station. Exit from main JR central exit and turn right, walk then cross the road and you can see the hotel. Lawson was situated right next to the hotel. Room amentities include mini fridge, hair dryer, slippers and bathrobes. Complimentary mineral water was also provided on a daily basis. Free ramen provided in the dinning room from 9pm onwards where you walk to the counter and order the ramen. You will get a number and then wait while they cooked your ramen on the spot. Free hot/cold water also provided. Microwave also available for use. Only cons is the room was quite small and housekeeping only clear the trash, made the bed and top up free water but do not vacuum the floor, which I found to be quite strange....and the aircon was off the first night and they finally turn it on after we complain to the reception.
