My daughter and I cycled all the way up alongside the river until we reached the Botanical Gardens. It wasn't the season for cherry blossoms, but it was still a lovely environment. We saw the world's largest plant and the hydrangeas and sunflowers were in full bloom. Japanese families were enjoying their Sunday off in the garden. Very pleasant.

The rose gardens were at their spectacular best at fourth week of May, the rose varieties were pretty extensive and the rose blooms were profuse. This garden is not on the usual foreign tourist route so it is not touristy and it is beautiful in spring n summer.

Nice and serene place to visit after prior day's rain and a break from visiting all the temples and shrines. The irises are in full bloom. A walk though its various gardens is accompanied by the amazing fragrances of the fresh bloomed flowers and trees. Very enjoyable!

These gardens were a great place to spend a day meandering about, watching families picnic, taking picture, etc.

Unlike other places we had visited there are places to sit down and just watch people. You can even sit on the grass! We got there towards the end of the cherry blossom blooms but there were still plenty here. As well as all kinds of flowers and blooming trees.

I got a ton of pictures.

Everyone there had a camera! We met this neat old Japanese photog, that I think wanted to practice his English language skills. We spoke with him for about 15 minutes, and he gave my wife two photos that he had in his camera bag. He carried stacks of beautiful pics to give out I guess. He was awesome.

Actually, everyone we met in Japan was awesome and went out of their way to help us.

Getting to the Gardens is a easy, there's a subway stop a few steps away from the front gate.

A short walk from the gate is a great place to eat (see my review of Shinshindo Bakery - its not just a bakery)

Bring your camera and maybe pack a lunch, and spend some time here!

We stumbled across this botanical garden while walking around Kyoto main streets. The atmosphere was lovely. Lots of people were having picnics under the cherry blossoms (apparently it's a cultural event) and there were many cherry blossoms everywhere to see. On top of that there were lovely flowers of many sorts scattered around the park. The conservatory is also another attraction that you should not miss. You could spend hours just strolling and taking nice colourful photos - best to go there at spring time!
