“A wonderful experience”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

Tried hard to find some aspect of our two-day stay at the Royal Park less than satisfying, but I can't. From the warm welcome to the sincere good-byes we were very favorably impressed. There's nothing no to like in proper-sized rooms, well-informed concierges, not to mention the strategic location of the hotel in a city where a lot of walking is de riguer. We love it.

Having read reviews on this hotel we couldn't go past it, and we weren't disappointed. A short taxi ride from Kyoto central later, we entered the dramatic lobby hallway to find a welcoming and efficient staff, a clean room and a comfortable base for exploring Kyoto. Pontocho and Gion are a short walk away and the whole area is very atmospheric and easily explored on foot. The cafe-bakery downstairs is a real bonus for breakfast, as it can be hard to find a decent cafe breakfast in Japan. Only downside is that the cab ride from Kyoto station can be expensive in traffic (up to 20 minutes and 1500 yen), so this may not be the ideal hotel to use Kyoto as a shinkansen base. I imagine a bus or subway would be at least 20-30 minutes to the station.

This hotel is located right next to the Gion district of Tokyo, close to the Sanjo and Kyoto Shiyakushomae stations. Gion is the area where you see a lot of old Japanese houses (a rarity in Japan) and you may be able to spot Geishas walking to their next venue. Very convenient spot, close to all shopping and restaurants. As Kyoto is a very sprawled place the hotel is not nearby to the main shrines so you will need to take a train/taxi to these sites. However, it is a great place to be based.

Hotel is extremely clean and modern (especially by Japanese standards). It does not feel like you are in a time warp in the 80s like many Japanese hotels are. Rooms are spacious and bathrooms are excellent. Great value for the price paid and definitely worth a stay if you are in Kyoto.

Even if we booked just a few days before and we did nothig special, we were upgraded to a better room at our arrival; nice surprise.
The hotel had a very reasonable price and was nice, clean and modern, up to very good standards.
The room was tiny but nice, the service was always on time and provided with a smile.
Location is great, everything is at walking distance and is also close to buses and metro.
The only thing we didn't particularly enjoy was the restaurant on the b1 floor, which wasn't really great as it seems to be advertised.
Overall everything was smooth and pleasant, and for a good price.

Fantastic location. Next to a supermarket and a delightful mbakery and within close walking distance to quaint restaurants and shopping alleys. Close walking distance to the subway and to Gion. We took a taxi to go to the temples and shrines scattered around Kyoto. We stayed in a triple room; a bit tight but the bathroom and electric toilet made up of it. We had breakfast in the bakery next door. They have a large of breakfast options from continental to American style set breakfasts at great prices.

It was my second stay here in Royal Park The Kyoto, love this hotel because of the location, it is in the city centre, many restaurants nearby, close to Gion, Pontocho district.
My room is the superior room with extra bed , although feel a bit cramp since not much room to walk around, the bed was very comfortable and surely help you sleep better after a long day. I am very impressed with the level of service of the staffs here, everyone very helpfull and I can see the difference from the last time I stayed here two years ago, now many of the staffs are fluent in English and they are very informative , know the best place to visit in their town, how to get around, you can ask almost anything with them and they will give you the answer if they do not know, they will find it for you, so helpful. Many hotels provide a good accomodation but very few with this kind of service. My points goes to their outstanding level of service, it is good to know some one is helping you in the foreign country. Arigatou gozaimasu.

This is the second time I stayed at this hotel, and I picked this hotel again for the familiarity and knowing it has a prime location. There is a supermarket next door, markets, restaurants, and bus stops to all the major attractions. The room is clean, and quiet. The only qualification is (maybe this is a culture thing) We borrowed a fruit knife (we wanted to keep up our daily intake of fibre) but the hotel staff kept on asking for the knife back..this happened not just at this hotel but another hotel in Osaka. Maybe we are on some international blacklist of fruit knife hoarders....besides that nice place and would recommend...the showers are huge and bigger than some rooms in Tokyo or Hong Kong.
