“Well overpriced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 November 2013 via mobile

In afraid overall a disappointing experience if we were to correlate it to the amount we paid. It was recommended by our hotel as it was our first night in Kyoto but have been in Japan for a week and enjoyed some first rate meals. There is really no choice on the menu other than the type of beef you want to be cooked. So nothing less than 10000 yen. For this you get a 'course'. The plate of appetisers came straight out of the fridge - cold. The beef was excellent. And we paid the extra(!) for the garlic fried rice which was cooked in front of you and was entertainment enough for the extra 1000 yen per person. And the ambience just lacked something. Maybe felt more like we were processed rather than a dinning experience. Left 33000 yen lighter.

“A little hard to find but we'll worth it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2013

Our first night in Kyoto was a bit overwhelming and this restaurant was just the thing we needed. This small steak place is on the second floor overlooking a center court with trees lit very invitingly. This place is not as we'll known as Mishimatei but was much more enjoyable. The staff were very helpful in explaining the foods, the spices, the protocols, and other Japanese customs that baffle an American new to Japanese food. The steak and vegetables are grilled in front of you. This is not a sukiyaki, shabu shabu restaurant but it very traditional. This price of the meal included an appetizer, small salad, and dessert that were presented artistically. The staff were helpful and friendly as you would expect in Japan. We asked them to call us a cab and it done without any difficulties.

“Simply Outstanding”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2013 via mobile

We came early for dinner, but it was no problem. Everyone was very courteous and we felt - though being the only guests in a big room - like home. The chef at the teppaniaki grill was a magician. We've been to many places of this kind, but this was the best. Oh, the food? Top level beef. Amazing. Worth the expense. Highly recommended!!

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2013

We had an amazing traditional experience at this beautiful restaurant. The talented young staff worked so hard to please and provided a delicious memorable meal for us.The steak was of the highest quality and was accompanied by delicious appetizers, vegetables, and even house made ice cream. It is expensive but the quality and service are absolutely worth every penny.Teppanyaki and experience at its finest.

“Just good”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2013

We were directed to Mikaku after the teppanyaki restaurant at our hotel was fully booked. Overall, the food was delicious and beautifully prepared and served. The reason for the lower rating, though, is that we felt it was overpriced and not really worth what they charge. And it wasn't the best steak we ever had.

The set menu starts at 10,000 yen for 100g of steak (this includes appetizers, veggies, soup, rice, etc.) and you can order larger portions for higher rates. While it was good, we felt, based on other meals we had in Kyoto, that it should have cost significantly less for the experience you get.
