“Small and unfriendly”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2014

I stayed here as part of an Interpid trip and didn't find it particularly good. Positives are the location, it is very close to major shops and the Pontocho restaurant area. Bus No 5 from the Kawaramachi Sanjo stop, just infront of the hotel is very useful and you can buy one day bus passes from reception at 500Y. The rooms were small, bathrooms absolutely tiny with not much headroom. Annoyingly a number of websites are blocked from the internet in the lobby, notably facebook and other email services. I found the staff quite abrupt, verging on rude at times.

The room is similar to other Japanese business hotel, extremely small but functional and generally clean. However, the room cleaning person did not wash the glasses I have used. She simply put it back to where it was placed originally and pretend it was washed. The price is good as I got the single room for 3 nights at a price of US$125 (i.e. about $40 a night). So I will not complain about it too much. The location is extremely convenient as the hotel is in the middle of the shopping district. It is about 10 to 15 min walk from different railway stations by Hankyu Railway, Kyoto Subway and Keihan Railway. It is also just about 10 min cab ride from Kyoto Railway Station.

Hotel Unizo was the first hotel during our 10 day trip in Kyoto. Our third time to this city but first time staying in hotel Unizo. cab fare from train station to the hotel is less than Yen 900. check in was easy and swift. Staffs speak English. Room is small and there is not enough space for us to lay down and open our second suitecase. Small bathroom also but it is fine for Asians. Nice bed and very comfortable pillow. Unfortunately they dont sell the pillow to hotel guests.. Close to shops, department stores, food alley, etc. Will consider to stay here again when come to Kyoto in future

Stayed here for 4 nights and had a great time. Hotel is in an excellent area close to everything. Room was very clean and bed comfortable and quiet large for a Japanese hotel which pleasantly surprised us. Reception staff were friendly and very helpful. Overall a great stay in Kyoto.

Despite asking for a double room we were given a twin room with beds which could not be moved, so this was not ideal. The furniture and bed linen were very dated and you couldn't open the wardrobe door fully without moving other furniture items, same went for opening the window, we gave up in the end.
The only really positive features were the central location, cleanliness, and price compared to other hotels on the area.
