“great staff, great hotel, top hotel experience in Kyoto!”
Reviewed 8 April 2014

Plus Points:
- good sized and very clean room.
- peaceful atmosphere throughout the hotel, despite having business / bridal conference facilities
- staff were extremely helpful in providing tourist information about the locality and answering our many "international guest" questions. Our trip to stay at Kawaguchiko (near to Mount Fuji) on a particularly busy weekend (that coincided with a public holiday on the Friday) would not have been possible without their help!
- good restaurant plus alternative options in the local area
- 7/11 and family mart nearby
- access to shopping and public transport at Shijo area (metro, jr line, buses)

Areas for Improvement:
- more diverse selection of TV channels (for films, documentaries) would be welcome for international guests. They use this as a method to encourage guests to use their on-demand tv / movie services.

Room tip:
- all rooms seemed to be very quiet and well furnished

Overall Take-away:
- this hotel is well in line with international standards. Good for either business or as a couple or small family.
- I enjoyed my stay here and would certainly stay here again if the opportunity arises.

Room Tip: Room tip: - all rooms seemed to be very quiet and well furnished

Just came back from Kyoto and I stayed at the Hotel Nikko Princess Kyoto as we had an event there as well.
The staff and hospitality was great and I was warmly greeted each time I stepped in and out of the hotel. It would be great though if they could provide free wifi in the lobby area as I was early and could not check in till a while later.
Room wise, they managed to change my room from a twin to double as I was traveling alone, and was very thankful for. It was spacious and very comfortable, including the toilet! Free dedicated wifi provided in the room which was appreciated.
Location wise, they had quite a number of convenient stores around, as well as quite a number of restaurants in the various streets down. You definitely don't have to worry about not being able to get food. It was near to a lot of the local attractions, and took a really short taxi ride to get to them. If you were up for it, you could definitely walk as well.
All in all, great experience at the hotel!

We stayed in this hotel for a Kyoto event in mid March. Yes the hotel is a bit dated but everything is just perfect for us - Both the room and the bathroom are of good size (the shower and bath area is big like having a little onsen in your own room!), we have CNN (all in English, not like some other hotels having CNN with Japanese voiceover ).

The front desk staff is super efficient and the concierge is great as well (Ms Yamada and her team helped us to organize our visit and transportation - the organization was not a straight forward one and she also found us the best arrangement for a middle size taxi to Osaka with all our luggage). Her English is good so as her team member too. We love the older gentlemen at the door as well. Here you find what real Japanese hospitality is.

The location of the hotel is good but not most perfect - it is not within a walkable distance with suitcases from the main station but is only 5 min walk to the shopping street: I walked and taking photos at the same time and it took me 8min to Diamaru, 15min to 0101 and 20-25 min to Gion area.

We have a memorable and wonderful stay - staff is great, we really miss it especially when we arrived at Osaka where hotel staff not necessary gives you a welcoming smile all the time. Highly recommend this hotel!

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave your review following your recent stay at Hotel Nikko Princess Kyoto. We truly appreciate your extremely kind comments regarding the bathroom, our team and the services.

It was so grateful to hear that your experience with our team was memorable and you found “real Japanese hospitality” in our hotel. We always try our hardest to make our guests feel at home and taken care of all the time. I have passed on your kind words to Yamada and her team which she really appreciated.
In terms of the location, it is few min walk to Shijo subway station (two stations from Kyoto station). I was pleased to read that you enjoyed shopping and sightseeing.

I do hope that you will come back and stay with us near future.

was booked into this hotel by travel agency. Beeing there is like being in a Chinese hotel from the 80´s. Grey rooms, only a few Japanese TV channels (not even CNN).
Staff was very friendly and helpful but their command of english could have been better. Rooms and floors are dull and grey, but clean. Green tea on the room is free, but coffee is 300 Yen! Not good and not up the standard. Did not test breakfast as Starbucks and 7-11 are 100-200 m away only and have a much nicer atmosphere.
This hotel urgently needs intense refurbishment from inside. Location is about 1.5 km from Kyoto station, bus and subway close to the hotel. A few temples and shrines around.

Thank you so much for the invaluable feedback following your recent stay at Hotel Nikko Princess Kyoto.

Whilst I am pleased to hear that you found our staff very friendly and helpful, I am very disappointed to have noted that you found our English skills were low level and your room and floors were grey.

The interior of our property was designed with French Empire Style by Hirsch Bedner Associates, the hospitality design firm. I feel so sorry that it did not fix your expectations.
With regards to out TV, we have CNN channel. Please accept my sincere apologies that we should have been communicated this to you.

Thank you again for your comments which is genuinely appreciated as we use this to improve our service. We are extremely focusing on creating only positive memorable experiences for our guests. We truly hope you will give us another chance to redeem ourselves and welcome you back.

staff and service are on par with what you would excpect in a ritz carlton or peninsula. the rooms are large and tastefully decorated, albeit a but older. I recommend a room on the 16th floor, which has nice city views. internet and underground parking (!) are included in the room rates. I highly recommend this worry-free property.
