Hotel Hokke Club Kyoto
Ranked #55 of 379 Hotels / Ryokan in Kyoto
Reviewed 21 June 2014

The hotel is just north of Kyoto Station which was very convenient for the shinkansen, subways and local buses for sightseeing. It is also right beside Kyoto Tower, so it was easy to locate.
There is an underground mall/food court called Porta with an entrance right beside the hotel front, so breakfast was always easy to find!
Rooms are small, but very nice and clean.

I had a conference and was booked at the Royal Rhiga Hotel and had my family stay in a more this more affordable hotel. The comparison (wife and I) was unanimous! The difference was this hotel Hokke by the word is "CLEANER". The bigger and more expensive Rhiga was a big disappointment! Hokke had much bigger and cleaner rooms. Not to mention much, much more affordable! When you step out of this fine Hotel you are in the middle of all the shopping, restaurants, and Rail station (Bahnhof). The more expensive Rhiga is about three blocks away! The staff are all friendly and accommodating. They have staff who are fluent in English and can give you directions to various places to visit. If I were to nitpick and find a fault it would be in the breakfast. There are a whole lot fine places to eat outside. Did I mention that it a few steps away from a large electronics mall and the Kyoto tower which will give you an awesome view of the whole of Kyoto? I suggest going up the tower at night. Whoa! Not to be missed. I envied my family who stayed in this hotel and I had to languish in the bigger, more expensive, less clean hotel for the conference. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This was my second Kyoto hotel. It seemed expensive in comparison to my previous hotel (Hotel Anteroom, which was just 15 min. away), and had a lot less character.

Front desk would not let me check in until exactly 3 pm.

Room was clean and small (as expected) but didn't feel clausterphobic. Location is directly across from Kyoto station, so it was convenient for an early morning train.

We stayed there for 5 nights and we were made so welcomed by the hotel staff. This is an excellent hotel with a “great location”. Just across the hotel is the Kyoto Station and bus station where you can take local buses/trains to all the tourist places. Beside the hotel is the Kyoto Tower and behind the hotel is another multi-level shopping center. The Kyoto train station itself houses a shopping center with plenty restaurants.
We had a double room with two full size beds, nice bathroom and small closet; the size was good under American standards, quiet and very clean. Single rooms are very small. Also, the hotel staff’s are very polite and helpful.

Helpful English speaking staff, spotlessly clean, reasonably priced and air conditioned, but most importantly, a few minutes walk from the train and bus station and in an area with a huge choice of restaurants and convenience stores. Although some reports suggest downtown Kyoto hotels as the best option in terms of location for restaurants and sight seeing, you cannot beat the Hotel Hokke Club. It is perfect for a Skinkansen arrival and local trains, JR buses, the great value Ramus tourist bus and city buses all leave from the nearby bus station for the major sites of Kyoto. There is a major shopping and food court called Porta in the pedestrian subway to the train station. There are also good and reasonaably priced restaurants in the 'Cube' shopping complex above the train station. Tip 1: Check out the lighting display at night on the steps leading up to the 10th floor and sights viewing area of the 'Cube' complex above the rail station. Tip 2: Day passes on the Ramus bus are tremendous value for easy sightseeing.

Room Tip: If you get one of the budget priced smaller rooms, don't be shy about moving the double bed away...

The Hokke Club is a wonderful place, with an excellent location across for the main station and bus terminal. From here you can get anywhere easily, even dinner in Osaka!
I would love to give the hotel more stars, but the rooms are small, hence a lower rating.
However, the staff are endlessly courteous and welcoming, they deserve five stars.
A great touch are the itineraries set out in folders in the lobby. They give you bus numbers, stops and routings to see the mains sights on various circuits around town. A very thoughtful and helpful touch by management.
Rooms themselves are functional, but small. Bathrooms are the standard Japanese all in one pre- versions in fibreglass, so they are functional but tight.
Rooms are small, and windows have little views out, so they can be a tad claustrophobic.
The cafe and Japanese restaurant downstairs are excellent.
A pedestrian underpass just outside links you to Kyoto station and a giant mall, there is another multi level mall behind the hotel, and Kyoto tower is next door.
Thoroughly recommend a stay here.

Hi,
It is a nice hotel situated just in front of the Kyoto station (easy and fast access to train and bus services).
We were ther for a week. The room is Ok, a bit small if you compare to Europe hotels but correct to sleep.
Everything is clean and the people are very nice. WIFI acess is free and they have two computers and a printer for use.
They also provide a multi mobile charger and a few little things (presents for women, umbrella if it rains). Small things that make this hotel a 4 out of 5.
I will recoment it if you go to Kyoto.

Room Tip: If you can afford a bigger room it can be great, otherwise it is Ok.
