“Get a room with a view. Nice but older hotel.”
Reviewed 3 September 2014 via mobile

My view was amazing including of hills and buildings and a huge buddha on the hill. The room is nice and comfortable, but a step down depending on the expectations and budget of the traveler. There is a brand new Ritz-Carlton and other hotels to consider. This hotel has walkways with a river/canal(s) near by.

This is a beautiful hotel with 126 years of history. All their staff understand the meaning of hospitality and will go out of their way to make sure that all your needs are met and all expectations exceeded. The view from the 17th floor where you can have your breakfast is both stunning and tranquil at the same time.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Kyoto Hotel Okura and would recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting Kyoto.

Room Tip: For added convenience, ask for the rooms near the lift. No worries, you hear nothing once in your ro...

The hotel is not very modern but very nice.
The guy at the front desk wasn't the nicest but during all our stay the same person took care of us and every needs we might have, she was very nice. If we had to send something or anything she arrived and took care of anything.
The room was the largest we saw in all Japan. There was a large bathroom with separate shower and bathtub. There is a small corridor with a large closet.
The coffee in the room is not free. There is a nice selection of whisky in the minibar.
The hotel itself is very big with tons of restaurants and shops.
On B2 level there is a french bakery that have very good viennoiseries. That is a good deal for breakfast since the prices are ok.
The hotel is nicely located, there are lots of shops and restaurants nearby.
We really enjoyed our stay there.

If you prefer a western style hotel in Japan the 126 year old hotel Okura might be your choice. It is just next to the city hall, many restaurants and super markets are minutes away, a good base for exploring. Excellent breakfast buffet, nice but expensive Restaurant in the 17th floor with excellent views. Large rooms, 70th style, more like small suites.

Room Tip: seventh flloor has a lift which has direct access to all restaurants

Impressive 1920s lobby. Excellent location in a busy shopping district with many nearby restaurants. Clean, well-kept rooms but nothing exceptional. The staff was very courteous, and the concierges were particularly helpful in finding and booking restaurants for us. The one disappointment was the mediocre international breakfast buffet.

From the grand lobby with the central staircase to the bellhops in pillbox hats, this place totally reminds us of the Grand Budapest Hotel. There is even an internal courtyard/atrium so that you can call hello to (or shoot at) someone on another floor. The concierges (who all seem to be women) are incredibly helpful. Ask them anything. They are happy to make reservations for you at restaurants and to help you plan your day.

Our room on the 12th floor has a panoramic view of the view to the north--city and mountains. Subway station in the basement. Comfortable rooms.
