Owner description: One of Kyoto's most famous attractions, this temple was originally built in 1397 as a residence for shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. The structure was completely covered in gold leaf, earning it the name Golden Pavilion.

Another temple, and its relativey recent destruction is rarely discussed. Pretty, I guess. Best part are the stalls at the end, where you can have a full meal from all the goodies offered.

This is a must visit place if you are in Kyoto. This is my favourite attraction in Kyoto. It is just so beautiful. I can spend hours just looking at the Golden Temple. To get here using the subway, just take the the train to Kitaoji station, and from kitaoji take a taxi to kinkaku-ji which should cost about 1000 Yen.

“Soooooooooo perfect”

It is an amazing temple and seeing the mirror of the temple and the trees in the lake was truly breathtaking.
You never get a better photo opportunity than just when you get in, but the walk around the area is very, very nice.

“Overwhelmed by the Number of Visitors”

This is one of Kyoto's main attractions and everyone comes here. Yes it is spectacular to view but there is little else to see - and that assumes that you can get near enough for a picture. There are better experiences in Kyoto.

If you are in Kyoto, you can get to the Golden Pavillion from the Sanjo Keihan bus station on the number 59 bus.
The journey through the local streets is very interesting, watching the locals go about their daily business.
Once there (you cannot miss the stop) you walk through the gate and the sight is so beautiful and awe inspiring. Even though the weather was cold at the end of March, so many people were there to enjoy this gorgeous place.
They say that it took 200,000 lbs of gold leaf to cover the pavilion and I would believe it, the building is so picturesque.
The gardens surrounding are so ordered and well kept, this is truly a photographers paradise .
The trip back to Kyoto is easy, the buses come regularly outside the wall. Don't miss it.
