Disappointed to find the museum closed except for a special exhibition held there. Apparently some major construction is going on in there. However, tickets are still going for 1000 yen and the lady at the ticket booth was very kind to inform us of the same. we made an informed decision to go somewhere else. Despite all that, In the morning there was a queue waiting to get into the museum just before its operating hour. Interesting...

There's nothing majorly wrong with the museum, a lot of the area was closed while we were there so that was a little disappointing. We struggled to understand the importance of the exhibition because of the lack of english, however I imagine it would suit somebody who really loved the history and making of Japan!
It's cheap and accessible though, so maybe it would be better if the exhibition was different?

Our second disappointment - finding a closed site. This sounds like a fabulous museum. Sorry we didn't get to experience it. The building and grounds alone make it seem intriguing.

Very dark museum for some reason, and absolutely stuffed full of school kids with sheets of workpaper. Nonetheless, pretty interesting artifacts and displays of the history of Kyoto before, during and after its inception as capital of Japan. Most of the displays had brief English descriptions beside them but it was all pretty self-explanatory.
