I thought I had found heaven in a backstreet of Kyoto when I saw this place.
Stepping in to the richly comforting bar, I was greeting with warmth, whisky and Jazz.
The staff pick and choose the vinyls to play as you sip on your whisky. Too bad this is all the way in Kyoto, otherwise I'm sure I'd be a regular there! If you're with a group of people, there is a lovely seating area overlooking the river. Otherwise, sit at the bar and admire the vinyl and whisky collection and have a chat to the bar staff.

We visited this bar after a beautiful dinner in the area and were seated at a table by the window over looking the river. We felt we had walked back into time! The decor and atmosphere here was just wonderful with lovely jazz playing in the background. The staff are very friendly and attentive. We had a couple of single malt whiskies here while chilling out after a long day walking through the temples, just perfect! Highly recommended if you are after a place to chill out, although they do have live music some nights which we would have loved to have seen as well.

This was one of the few bars open late on a rainy midweek day after a long day exploring Kyoto.
Atmosphere was great.
Whiskey was too.

My wife had a long day getting lost on the trains which caused us to get a late start trekking around Kyoto. To make things worse it was raining and cold so we were constantly on the look out for a nice cozy place to warm up. As we were walking down one of the many narrow streets in Kyoto we stumbled upon the cute window display of Hello Dolly. The second we peeked our heads in we knew we found exactly what we were looking for. It felt like we stepped into a time capsule with the decor and furniture being older than the place itself like something out of the 30's. Louis Armstrong records being played in the back ground as a well-groomed gentleman in a tuxedo greeted us at the door. He proceeded to seat us in the most private corner banquet allowing us to sit back and sip on 2 delicious Manhattan's with utter privacy. We loved this place so much we kept ordering drinks so we didn't have to leave. My wife and I both had 3 whiskey cocktails and by the end of the evening we were pleasantly numb and ready to take on the cold Kyoto night with the sweet melody's of Louis Armstrong still buzzing in our heads. This place was the real deal and wasn't trying to be anything else but a classy Jazz and Wiskey bar on a narrow street somewhere in Kyoto. Highly recommended!
