LOCATION: The Fushizome-an Machiya Residence Inn is located 3 km north of Kyoto station. A taxi ride from Kyoto Station will take 10-15 minutes and costs JPY 1200. Most taxi drivers have a hard time finding this brand new inn, but if you give them the name of the nearest police station, Nakagyo Police Station, on the Koin Dori street, most driver will not have a problem finding it. (Nakagyo Police Station is located 400 meters from Omiya underground station.) Facing the police station and only 10 meters away, you will see an over a meter tall, white-red-blue striped, standing hair salon sign pole on your left. The hair salon sign pole marks the alley entrance to the inn, (see picture for further details). Around 5 meter down this alley, opposite the hair dresser, you will find the Fushizome-an Machiya Residence Inn.
The check-in is at 3 PM and check-out is at 11 AM. For further details on the check-in procedure, please read the booking confirmation e-mail. Our check-in staff was very courteous and helpful. Since her English was very good, we found her advice more helpful than the Tourist Information Centre at the Kyoto Station.
INN: This is more than an ordinary inn. It is actually a semi-attached, newly renovated, fully furnished, very clean, spacious two-storey Japanese townhouse. There are two western style single beds and two futons, enough to accommodate 4 people. The beds are comfortable, so are the pillows. The two heater/air-conditioners are very effective and quiet. Good shower.
CONCLUSION: Nicely renovated, spacious, charming Japanese inn. Highly recommended.
