“Another favorite in Kyoto”

Eikando Zenrinji Temple

Eikan-do was one of my favorite temples in Kyoto. When we were there, there was a ceremony going on, and many monks were worshipping in one of the main buildings. There is a seating area for visitors to watch. Walking through the temple and hearing them chant was magical.
The colored flags around this worship building were beautiful as well.

There is a short walk up to a pagoda that has amazing views of Kyoto. Go up there and sit for a while.

The garden is nice also, and there is a place to order green tea.

After a morning in the west of the city we visited the beautiful Ginakuji Temple from here look the Philosophers' Path to Eikando. What a calming conclusion to the day, virtually empty and an opportunity to see the inside of a temple, which is often not the case. If you not wearing socks use the slippers as there is plenty of walking and in April feet get cold! The grounds are delightful and a walk up to the pagoda gives a great view of the city.

Beautiful grounds and lovely views. A very serene place that also wasn't overrun with tourists, which was nice. I really wish the blossoms were in full bloom, but it was a bit too early in March. I can only imagine how magnificent it would look when they are in bloom. Still a beautiful place.

I only went here because it is famous for the light up at night.
You will experience a whole different kind of maple leaf viewing as the night gives the scenery a mysterious and tranquil beauty. You can drink tea at the cha-ya inside the premise to warm up as it gets quite chilly. Drinking hot tea while admiring the view to understand how the Japanese enjoys and appreciates the change of season. Again, it is quite crowded when the view is at its prime time.
It is quite easy to get there. You only need to take the bus and follow the crowd as they walk from the bus station :D

We stopped here while walking the Philosophers Path. It may not be as dramatic as some of the other sights in town, but it's really nice and very peaceful. We almost had the place to ourselves too. There is a really nice curved staircase on the way up to a great lookout near a shrine. Some really nice views of Kyoto can be had here on a clear day.
