“Good Stay for Kyoto”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

This is right across the street from the Imperial Palace Grounds (which are huge - entrance a couple of blocks away) and very convenient to the subways, and a straight shot from Kyoto Station. Within walking distance to Nijo Castle. The hotel is on the plain side, but very clean. The staff at the front desk were among the best I've encountered, very attentive and accommodating and of course, impeccably polite. There's a small common area on the 2nd floor with a few tables, a sink and a microwave where you can bring in your own meal, like from Kyoto Station's many wonderful take-out opportunities. There are laundry facilities and vending machines on the mezzanine, and a restaurant off the lobby that has both Japanese and western style breakfast. Great value, especially for Japan.

Room Tip: If you can, ask for a room on the backside of the hotel away from the elevator.

Good hotel. Not really in the center of Kyoto, but it is only a few minutes walk to the subway.
Friendly and helpfull staff, who keep their promises.
Good Western & Japanese breakfast (not included) in buffet style.

You couldn't get a better place to stay in Kyoto. Short subway ride then three minute walk. Next to the Emperors park , temple, restaurants and a 9 dollar cab ride to the Gion district. Clean, quiet, laundry, wifi, free one hour bikes, which we used to tour emperors garden across the street and to pick up booze and groceries from the Fresca grocery store. Great value 82 dollars a night for a twin with a view!

Room Tip: Ask to overlook the park or Anglican church

This was a decently priced room in Kyoto, however I would have chosen a hotel closer to the centre of the centre of town for eating/drinking/entertainment purposes.

The staff were excellent, always at the desk, plus a reasonable rate for bicycle hire (and they didn't laugh at as too much when it rained and we came back like drowned rats). One day the housekeeper accidentally broke out coffee maker that was in the drying rack and by the time we came back that day the hotel staff has gone out and already bought us a new one. There were very apologetic, it was so sweet, i felt bad for housekeeper.

We had a park view room, but this is just of trees, the room is spacious, but the bathroom is not. Still very adequate.

Stayed here for three nights, we found the hotel & cafe staff super friendly and helpful :) the room was really big and the furnishings clean and pleasant. The location makes it easy to get around town - we discovered the buses on the second day and used them for the rest of the trip, much nicer to see the city this way and just as quick and easy as the subway! Would definitely stay here again next time we're in town!

Palace side was a great experience. Simple but very clean with attentive staff and lovely lobby.
I have been unable to rebook this hotel for my upcoming trip to Japan in October because it is completely full. This comes as no surprise to me since it is a super place to stay. Will try again if another trip to Japan comes my way.

Husband and I stayed in a twin room, my sister stayed in a single economy room. To be honest, the rooms were very large by Japanese standards (and pretty big for my Texas standards). Husband and I thought afterwards we probably could have saved some money and taken a single...

As others have said the location is nice, next to the Imperial Palace. However, we found ourselves often venturing to the western parts of Kyoto, so walking to those places made things a little more inconvenient. Kyoto has 1300 Buddhist temples and 400 Shinto shrines, so practically anywhere you go you will find cool things to see. The staff were helpful, provided us with extra pillows and an iron free of charge. There's on site coin laundry if you need it. I can't speak for the food; since it seemed a little expensive to us we never dined there. The staff speaks English well enough, just make sure to enunciate.

One thing that was a negative was the beds. I'm not one for angel-soft mattresses, but my goodness were these beds hard. They're only about 8 inches thick and have no give. I ended up sleeping on top of the comforter with a blanket to try to ease the pressure on my hips (I'm a side sleeper). Still, I survived with minimal discomfort the next day.
