Old furniture with no access around the double bed due to TV being in the way, and no bedside tables. Pillows were filled with polystyrene balls like beanbags. Very small room with bathroom door opening out so that you can get in to it. Wife had to crawl over me in the night to get to the bathroom but I guess that was a bonus !

Located less than 5 min walk from Karasuma Oike station using Exit 1. Conveniently located to most tourist sites. A clean and nice hotel with good spread for its morning buffet breakfast. Room are simple and clean and best part Wifi is available in the room as well. The staff are friendly and helpful. Not much facility available though but do have a self service laundry.

The Hearton Hotel in Kyoto is a very basic Hotel that serves as a starting point to explore the often hidden secrets of Kyoto. The hotel is ideally located at the intersection of Kyoto's 2 subway lines Karasuma (North-South direction) and Tozai lines ( East-West direction) . If you travel to Kyoto from Tokyo by Shinkanzen as we did, then you can take the Karasuma line to Kokusaikaikan and get off after 3 stops. The name of the subway station is Karasuma-Oike and is a 2 min walk away from the hotel. (Take exit 1 and turn left at the 2. intersection and the hotel will be on your left.). The rooms of the hotel are rather small. I travelled with family (my wife and my daughter) and we got a bigger than everage room with 2 regular beds and a rollaway bed. This left us with no space to open the suitcases or even open the minibar (which we never use anyway). The bathroom had a small tub and you can shower standing in the tub. I think a shower without a tub would be a much smarter option given the very limited space offered by the room. My biggest problem with the room was that it stinked like an ashtray. (It was quite a surprize for me how many Japanese people smoke despite being so health conscious in general. Smoking is allowed in public places and even in restaurants!).
The pillow I had was the worst I ever slept on but they changed it upon request. Interestingly my wife and my daughter had pillows different from mine and from each other as well. The breakfast was OK but nothing special. Japanese and western style breakfast are served in two different restaurants and we only tried the Western buffet.
Must see sights in Kyoto: Nijo temple (5 min walk from the hotel), Golden Temple (Kinkaku-Ji) and Toji temple.

This hotel is located centrally, is neat and clean, and for single occupancy business class it's a good hotel. Morning Buffet breakfast has good menu. Had very little time so could not explore any other facility at the hotel.

Room Tip: I don't think they have got any rooms with a view so just choose any..

We chose this hotel because it was near the Imperial Palace and Nijo castle.
The hotel is also close to metro station so we could go to other parts of the city easily.
The room was not too big but it did have a nice comfortable queen size bed.
It was quiet environment. The room was very clean as well as the bathroom. the bathroom had a hybrid toilet (a fusion of toilet with european bidet with electronic buttons). The seat of the toilet was pleasantly heated. The mirror in the bathroom had automatic anti-fogging.
The bathroom was also well equipped with toiletries.
The room had a desk and a flat screen TV.
There was free LAN direct internet connection in the room. Wi-Fi was available and free in the lobby.
Buffet breakfast was available for $10 per person. We actually had it elsewhere out of the hotel.
The staff was nice and polite.
The neighborhood was nice and there were shops and restaurants not far from the hotel.
