Pros: good location (close to train subway, bus and centre), nice staff, decent bathroom

Cons: no wifi except in the lobby (and even then only if there are less than 5 people using it), multiple stains on the carpet, rock hard bed, worn and dated furniture and fittings, pay per view tv only (no free channels), no breakfast included in the price

Overall, quite poor value, especially at £100/$150 per night. The only reason to stay is the convenient location. I wouldn't stay here again

Good value hotel, featuring public bath on the top floor. All neat and tidy with basic English staff on board makes this a pleasant stay. Traffic noise can be a little loud if your room faces gojo dori and also just be aware that the bus line out front is infrequent, in fact it's not even shown on the Kyoto tourist map, so it's a 5 minute walk to the bus lines. You will need to buy the daily bus pass for 500 yen if you stay here otherwise catch the subway as it's just a little too far from the action on foot. Wifi in lobby is intermittent, and it's about 20 minutes walk to jr Kyoto station. Overall, a pleasant stay, ticks the boxes and the bathroom is large-ish by Japanese standards.

We booked this place last minute and needed a place that had a Triple Room. The staff was very friendly, location was in the newer part of Kyoto and not terribly far from Kyoto station. There is no Wifi in the Rooms and sometimes it doesn't work in the lobby. The room were dated but fine, it was a great value for the money.

Stayed there for a few nights whilst in Kyoto this autumn.

Hotel ist 1-2 walking minutes away from Karasuma-Line Station "Gojo", which is nice, because 1) you are connect right at your hotel and 2) this is just 1 station away from the Kyoto Station, where you can connect to all the JR-Lines/Shinkansen and all of the Bus-lines.

There are a few 24/7 supermarkets a few minutes away, also very convenient.

If you wanna walk a bit: in a 20 minutes you are in the middle of Gion.

The rooms are nice, not to big, not to small, just right.

The downside: Only wired Internet is available in the room (you can get a cable at the reception for free!), WiFi is only available in the lobby ... but here: VERY bad connection. Almost every 2nd time the receptionist had to unplug the router and replug it to get the WiFi going again.

Also the hotel is a bit on the pricey side compared to others in this category (paid 67.000 YEN for 4 nights for a single-room)

There's also a restaurant attached ... was there once ... was ok, had Curry.

All in all: a solid "Average"-Rating ... nice hotel, clean, good location, but poor internet conectivity, a bit pricey.

The breakfast buffet is one more example that Japan westernizes more and more. This trend is not nice.

Finally, I ended up with some western breakfast items (fruits and yoghurt), because the japanese misou soup was only available conterminated with either (1) fish or (2) chicken.

In Japan, I want to enjoy Japanese cousine, but for vegetarians, there was no Misou Soup.

Finally, they gave me a corn soup after claiming, but this is not Japanese either, but western food.

Traditionally, Japan was a nation of vegetarians, but nowadays, they don't care about vegetarians and try to become "better" by westernizing their food.

This is a general trend in Japan, not only concerning food.

残念ですね。

We loved our stay at the Aranvert Hotel. The staff were so lovely! Our room had a nice thick carpet and was similar to how my grandparent's house was decorated. A funny explanation I know but I guess it's kind of 50's 60's style. A bit like the old James Bond films!

Very comfortable, a few nice little gadgets and gimmicks, my favourite being the heated toilet seat which is very normal in Japan but a treat for foreigners not used to this.

The breakfast was nice. Not all staff speak English but they try very hard to help. The location is good and easy to get to. I hope one day I will be able to stay here again!

Moved from the royal spa hotel to this one and regretted it somewhat.
Location not convenient , but subway very near. No wifi in the room which I think is a little dumb now that lots of guest carry tablets-result is that guest have to Internet in the charmless lobby of the hotel-Skype there for is a embarrassing unless you don't mind everyone hearing you talk.
The room we booked was ok,spacious and clean -apart from stained carpet.

The breakfast buffet at 1700 yen is a bit expensive.

The great thing about the place is the lovely onsen on the top floor.
Staff is helpful and speak English .

It's just an ok hotel-but for me price quality wise not the best choice.
